Great adventurous read
I really enjoyed this adventure with James and Alex. They travelled through the jungle getting themselves out of many scrapes. The cave description was too much for me, I hate small places and could envisage myself being stuck in the cave with the boys. Very descriptive writing from the author Jane.

The book leaves me wanting to read more of Alex and James' adventures
From a family member who is not able to post for themselves with their own account:I have listened to the audiobook version of Himalayan Kidnap after listening to Himalayan Heist which is another book in the series set after this book. The book is about brothers Alex and James whose parents have been kidnapped and their adventure to save them.Himalayan Kidnap features an accompanying PDF (just like Himalayan Heist does )with beautiful wildlife pictures that the author took herself and short informative writing about the photos. The photos are all related to events in each chapter. They help with setting the scene and are very interesting to look at.I like the relationship between Alex and James. They care about each other and look out for each other even though they annoy each other. I like how much Alex and James care about their parents and the lengths they go to help them. It seems like a complete role reversal children rescuing their parents and I thought that was nice. They have very exciting adventures and have many problems to solve and situations to overcome in order to help their parents. I like how clever Alex is and how knowledgeable he is about Nepal, nature and animals. Learning some of what he knows and how it helps them on their journey to help their parents is very interesting. Also there's lots of information in the book about Nepal that I didn't know such as mentions of the religion and landscape and wildlife that's very interesting to me reading it but it's still written in a very accessible way that is fun to read and easy to understand and the factual information does not detract from the plot. The book leaves me wanting to read more of Alex and James' adventures.

This adventure story is set in Nepal with two boys as the main characters though there is also a no nonsense female character for whom the boys have great respect.
I read this book in one sitting finding it impossible to put it down. This adventure story is set in Nepal with two boys as the main characters though there is also a no nonsense female character for whom the boys have great respect.. It is pacy and full of unforced information about the flora, fauna and culture in Nepal. As with James Bond the boys get into impossible situations and like him (thus far) they manage with ingenuity, luck and humour to extricate themselves. Were I not retired from my position as a school librarian this book would be be heading for the library shelves. As it is, the grandchildren will benefit.

Himalayan Kidnap
Himalayan Kidnap by Jane Wilson-Howarth. This is an exotic adventure story about two brothers who have found out their parents have been kidnapped and must traval through the jungles if Nepal to find them. Their travals encounter fast flowing rivers and a maze of long dark cavernous caves with murderous men hot on their heels.I read this book not knowing if I would like it or not but by the first chapter it was hard not to get glued. I loved that this book gives you a taste for Nepali culture and an understanding of the animals that live their. Each chapter includes pictures of Nepalese animals some of which were new to me. I recommend this book to people age 8 and above.Tess Howarth-JonesAge 13

Great book of adventure, suspense and fun!
I bought this book for my grandsons and as a huge fan of Jane's previous books read it first (quality control!) I couldn't put it down! The adventures of Alex and James are fascination, you can nearly imagine you are there with them, feeling the temperature of the water, smell the smoke, the hairs on the back of your neck standing up wondering are they ok? What next? The description of rhino and elephant poo is so Jane! The illustrations are beautiful, so children can imagine the animals described. I wondered at times if part of the story was true knowing Jane had lived and worked in Nepal. Really looking forward to the rest of the series. Well done Jane, my grand sons are in for a treat! X

Gripping adventure tale set in Nepal
Jane Wilson Howarth's story of two brothers aged 12 and 16 is sure to capture the imagination of young teenage readers, and will probably appeal to older readers as well. !6 year old Alex and his 12 year old brother James are asked to take a mysterious package to their parents, who are engaged in animal research in the Nepalese jungle. They soon become involved in a dangerous journey involving betrayal, wild animals, avalanches, deep and dark caves and kidnap by Maoist insurgents, as well as help from many Nepalis, including their young friend Atti. The story moves rapidly from one incident and escape to another, and is sure to hold the interest of young readers. Throughout the book Jane’s knowledge and love of Nepal, its people, its geography and its wildlife shine through the narrative, skilfully making it as informative as it is entertaining. The book includes a glossary of Nepali terms used in the text, as well as delightful illustrations by Betty Levene of many of the creatures encountered by Alex and James during their adventure.
