Great!!
I did private training with Kate. My dog responded so well-a stray who was seriously reactive. She’s fantastic. Book is a great reinforcement.

A must read for all dog owners
I bought this book in preparation for my new puppy and the training classes I planned to take him to, led by Kate and team. This book is an essential guide for anyone getting a dog or looking to improve their dog’s obedience. This book goes beyond teaching your dog how to simply “sit.” Kate uses her years of experience and success to create unique concepts that are unparalleled in the dog training industry. Kate’s four “canine-alities,” or four different personality traits found in dogs, create a personalized way and method for you to train your dog. I loved how Kate embedded examples of different dogs in the book to demonstrate their different “canine-alities.” It showed why dogs do what they do and how to subsequently adjust their behaviors accordingly.Kate’s methods are simple yet impactful and lead to a strong behavioral foundation for your dog as well as a strong relationship with your dog. Kate’s customized methods help solve any problems you might face - separation anxiety, barking, housebreaking etc. Kate explains the “why” and gives you the “how.” Building more complex and difficult skills (from “roll-over” to completing obstacle courses) with your dog is an easy task due to the baseline “good behavior” this book helps you achieve. In short, this book is a must for anyone looking to deepen their relationship with their dog or simply answer the question “I wonder why my dog does that”

Our doggie angel
Until I found Kate Perry and her team of trainers and walkers, my life with my new rescue cocker spaniel was miserable. I had just lost my 12 year old cocker to liver failure, and I was hoping to have a new dog to lift my spirits. Unfortunately every trip outside was a battle with potential four legged enemies, but every encounter with children was positive. One evening my hysterical dog wrapped her leash around my legs, and I fell backwards onto the concrete and suffered a concussion and back injury. I was physically and mentally at the end of my rope--until I had a private with Kate. My life with my dog is now so wonderful--admittedly she requires reminders of what she should do--but like a good marriage one should never become complacent. Kate, and now her book, gave me the tools and the responsibility and permission I needed to take charge of my dog. Kate is the epitome of positive, and she is an enthusiastic, educated, and tireless teacher who understands the owner and the pet. From one-on-one to classes to private lessons, Kate is not only direct about what will improve the situation, but also incredibly compassionate and clear about the method to be followed. I have been a teacher for forty years, and I realize a gifted teacher when I encounter one. I am grateful to have the book to remind me of what I need to do to keep us on track. Having a copy of Training For Both Ends of the Leash gives me no excuse to not practice what I have learned. It is like have Kate sitting on my bedside table! The negative review was obviously written by someone who does not know Kate. It is abusive and untrue. What a loss for the writer and the pet.

Kate Perry saved our dog and us
I cannot recommend this book enough, its a game changer !! Her training techniques will give you new insight into your dog.Kate and her training completely transformed our dog and us. Our dog, a rescue, came with some serious issues that we were not prepared to deal with in the least. Her ability to read and understand a dog's behavior and how to tap into their natural personality drives is truly amazing. It made it possible for our dog to get past the prior abuse and improper handling, and allowed him and us to develop a happy, rewarding and harmonious relationship. She taught us how to truly understand and respect him.Her book encapsulates her training approach in a way that is easy to understand and apply. Its not just for dogs with issues like ours. It covers all areas of training, from puppy-hood on up and shows you how to apply her techniques to your lifestyle and your dog. It doesn't just teach you techniques or short cuts for training, it explains why and how these techniques work and why they are important to both you and your dog.Training our dog with Kate has been one of the most interesting and rewarding learning experiences I have ever had.

Very interesting concept.
Amazing insight to dogs and how they think but I was hoping for more training advice. Good information to try and decided how to work with your dog based on how they act. But still I was left wanting a little more exact help. The questions you answer about your dog in order to find out what they are is fun and very insightful. There is a lot of technical information about tests and expirments they conducted that is somewhat repeatative to me, but that is my opinion. Perhaps this is a book that reading over some of the parts about what makes your dog who he or she is would give me more of the solutions to training I was looking for.Great background on how we got to the place of having dogs in our lives.

Clear rationale behind each lesson
What I find most useful about this book is how Kate and Yvonne explain the reasoning behind the dog's behavior. Jackson (the pup) and I took Kate's course and use this book as a reminder of the lessons. The step-by-step description of the lessons is crucial--which makes this book relevant to all owners, not just those who've taken classes with Kate. The book is a complete training course from puppyhood to adolescence. If your dog and you can perform the tasks laid out in the book, you will have the very best of relationships. I struggle in my walks with Jackson but I am making progress after reading the book. I agree with another reviewer: the "look" and "touch" commands are foundational and very very useful. In addition, the book helps deal with dog-run behavior: you will "read" your dog and others' too. The book has helped me avoid problems in the dog park. I wish other people in the dog run read it, too.
