Essential for my ube cupcakes
This powder is an essential ingredient for my ube cupcake recipe that everyone loves. Even when I soak the powder in hot milk for 15 minutes before making the batter, I still found that I could taste chunks in the cupcakes so now I immersion blend the soaked ube - milk mixture & that works out well.

My favorite ube!!!
When it arrived, there was a hole in the bag, which was kind of annoying because some of it spilled when I opened it, but I was still able to use it. It tastes very good made into hopia, and it was reasonably easy to cook! I would buy these again.

Beautiful Color
I can’t comment on authentic taste as I’ve never had anything flavored with ube, but the color was fantastic and the cookies tasted good.

Expensive product
Too expensive for just 1 small pack. Could barely taste the ube flavor. It will just add color to my bread.

The question is? What is in the Bag? My advice ...
...As someone who has a long background in the Culinary Arts... Do not waste 1 penny, NOT on the OOKEG Organic Purple Sweet Potato Powder or this GIRON FOODS INC Powdered Purple Yam! The texture is granular and when added to hot water and stirred it does not melt, the water does not change color. The product has no flavor when you taste it... and no aroma! Has me wondering what exactly is in the bag... perhaps a sample should be sent to a lab for testing! You will be greatly disappointed when it arrives and you can not work with it! Seriously it is like a bag of sand that is colored slightly... I also ordered another brand which is more like a powder, but to be honest I question the contents? Does it contain artificial color, did they add gelatin given the texture after water is added... Best thing to do if you want Ube, is to find an Asian market and ask them if they have access to the plant... If you live in a warm climate like Florida, as I do... you can plant it, but it takes 1 year as I understand before harvest... I have planted one... ;D Time will tell.. Would NOT BUY this again, and the product will go straight to the trash, it is a product of China, Made in the Taiyuan, Shanxi ProvinceGiven the color and the label I simply do not trust that it is as was stated on Amazon!!!Also know, this product is NOT returnable, and you may not receive a credit from the seller.OOKEG Organic Purple Sweet Potato Powder displays a label with seals such as USDA Organic, Non-GMO, No additives or preservatives…It states on the principal display panel (PDP) 100% Natural Freeze-Dried UBE (which is why I chose to buy it)Yet on the back panel Ingredient list states: Organic Freeze-dried Purple Sweet PotatoUbe is a purple yam, very different from a purple sweet potato, but there is more~~~>Yet at the top of the back label it states: "ookeg Dragon Fruit Powder is a smooth powder that’s easy to mix into any beverage and dish! It is also great to add to any recipe for a pop of pink”My questions??? Is this Dragon fruit (pitaya) or is this UBE (purple yam) or is this Purple Sweet Potato Powder? Because all 3 are listed on this package! It has NO real taste, yes it is purple, it has a subtle aroma of sweet potato, but very subtle after being placed in hot water, it tends to act like a gelatin or thicken as it sits in the glass with very little product (1 tsp) it gets clumpy if the water isn’t hot enough…I originally purchased it to create a cold or hot latte recipe using the Ube powder. If you have ordered an Ube Latte at a trendy coffee bar, know that the ingredients in the Ube extracts and Ube flavorings that are being used in these trendy cafe's to create Ube Latte’s, are extremely unhealthy, may cause a headache or migraine, and should be avoided if wellness is important to You! Propylene glycol, artificial colors, artificial flavors, glucose, ethyl vanillin, potassium sorbate… a long line up of poison colored purple (artificially) YIKES!
