Really enjoying the recipes
I originally bought the book for my Kindle. The formatting didn't translate well at all and I had to return it. I could tell that I would really like the recipes so I sent for the hardcopy. I'm trying to limit my purchases of 'real' books (space it limited) but I wanted this and am glad I bought it. The recipes are so simple and everything I have made has been delicious. I have below average cooking ability, and really appreciate a cookbook that I can use easily. I'm still searching for a well-formatted vegan cookbook for Kindle.Wanted to update that cookbooks are awesome on the cloud reader or on kindle for your pc. You can enjoy the beauty and not miss any of the formatting of the hardcopy PLUS you have the book on the kindle for when you are in the grocery store trying to remember what ingredients you need. I wish I had kept the kindle version. I wonder if Amazon will let me trade back?

Great Japanese Recipes
These are easy to make and find the ingredients for - nice tasting too. Will be making more recipes from this book, if you like to cook and like some variety you should enjoy this vegan Japanese cookbook.

Content Good, kindle format bad
The small part I've read so far is well done.My biggest complaint is the kindle format. Like many cookbooks, the author refers to other recipes by page number. Kindle on the IPAD and on the PC do not allow you to go to a page number. I should not even have to search, there should be a hyper-link.I really don't like the fact that you can't select any text. I have software to manage my recipes. Since I can't select the text, I have to type them all in, which is rather a pain. The same goes for printing. Why can't I print! I can photocopy a page in a book, why not the electric format?I like the convenience of e-books, but think we're ceding too much control to the publishers. I paid for the content, now let me use it the way I see fit!

Lovely Cookbook!
I was really missing Japanese food since going Vegan and I am so glad I bought this book. The recipes I have tried so far are delicious. I loved the beginning when the author talks about the history of vegetarianism in Japan and shojin-ryori cooking! It was very interesting. The author even includes vegan alternatives to traditional Japanese ingredients, for example there is a vegan version of dashi! My favorite thing so far was the wakame salad, it was delicious! Another great thing about this cookbook is it really feels like authentic Japanese food even with the substitutes! I recommend this for any vegan Japanese food lover!

A Rare Find
It's really hard to find vegetarian/vegan Japanese cookbooks so I was happy to find this one. The recipes I've tried from it have all been good and I look forward to trying them all. The author makes it easy to customize many recipes with your veggies and protein of choice. I wish it had pictures though (but that would significantly affect the price), and that she gave the vegetarian versions on the recipes she omitted egg from. All in all it's an excellent find for vegetarians/vegans who love Japanese food.

Super awesome, authentic Vegan Japanese food! Woo!
I have made about 10 of the recipes so far, and every one is so delicious. Konyakku is one of my new favorite foods, and the recipe for the curry udon is super good. Japanese curry is very unique, and the flavor and sweetness of this one is just like the ones I've had in restaurants. I also never realized it, but there are really no spices in Japanese cooking, all of the flavors come from fresh ingredients and various sauces. The glossary is also excellent (and very helpful!) to have cuz it explains a lot about various Japanese cooking/food words. If you're vegan and love Japanese food, get this book!

Looks good, but...
To be honest, I haven't tried the recipes yet and they do sound good, plus the book has good reviews. For me, I would have liked photos of the food. This is not food I'm familiar with and I would have liked to see photos so that I could choose the food that appealed to me. By reading it, I have no idea which dish I would like. This is a huge letdown. I think the writer should republish an updated version of the book that includes photos.

Encyclopaedic Knowledge from a Little Book!
I can't praise this book enough. Given the fact that Japanese cooking can be otherworldly and daunting to most, this book does an amazing job of giving you the traditional foundations of Japanese cuisine. There is even an incredibly helpful glossary of frequently used ingredients that most people will never have heard of let alone know how to use. Even typical dinner menues/combinations are covered. Moreover it's not just a book of recipes, but gives you deeply important cultural and historical context to the food you're cooking. Add the fact that the author feels no need to unnecessarily complicate things (so long as the final product isn't compromised) and leaves ample room for you to give things your own flair and you've got an amazing crash course in vegetarian Japanese cooking. This is probably the most used cookbook I've ever bought!

One of the best!
Although not vegan (I eat some fish, dairy products and eggs though never meat) I found this book marvellous. You will probably need a well-stocked health store or supermarket to get some of the ingredients, but if you have an Asian/Chinese supermarket then you'll find all the ingredients easily and pretty cheap too. Once you've got the basic ingredients (most of which last for year or more) the rest is just buying in-season veggies, etc. Most of the recipes are simple to prepare, which is a boon compared to some other Japanese cook-books where you can spend 5 hours in a kitchen preparing the ingredients and cooking!I'd like to see an update of this book - there are so many other meat-like substitutes available commonly these days which easily can replace some of the ingredients. It's a brilliant introduction to Japanese cooking, showing how it need not be too fussy to prepare and cook. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes Japanese food, even meat eaters.Oh, and you'll lose weight eating this sort of stuff regularly and generally feel healthier.

Easy to follow tasty recipes
Even though I'm not a vegan I enjoy trying out new vegan recipes. The four recipes I have made so far from this book were incredibly easy to make and really tasty. Particularly the tofu wrapped nori - meat eater friends really liked this one too. Really impressed, plus the author gives you some background information on her growing up in Japan and on Japanese cuisine all of which is really interesting. I definitely would recommend this.

refined
Even though it might not be easy to find all the ingredients, I love this book. And in the beginning the author gives a very comprehensive explanation of all these tricky ingredients and their possible substitutes. The recipes are simple though refined, definitely for people who enjoy their food.
