OttoMusica SR11 Shoulder Rest Magic Pad for Violin and Viola

I really like this violin pad, it keeps my violin firmly on my shoulder and the violin does not slip and slide when playing it. I had made a homemade pad and it looked ridiculous with all the tape I had to use but when I saw this one on Amazon I was thrilled that I could actually buy one that looked nice. I hope it lasts for a long time because I thought it was rather expensive for such a small pad. I am very glad to have made this purchase.

I got this for my child's 1/4 violin. So far this is the only sponge or shoulder rest we've found that isn't too tall for her neck. It was great for about a week, then started falling off constantly. So, now we have to use a rubber band it make it stay on the violin, which I was trying to avoid. It does provide enough comfort for her though. Just very disappointed that the sticky part didn't last longer.

I do not yet know if the pad will stick - but I do know that the outward facing side is not black, as pictured. It is a very bright, unprofessional shade of royal blue!P.S. Several months later, I can also say the pad DOES NOT stay put. I will leave the review at 2 stars, since the cushioning is good, when I can keep it in place.

For me, this is a perfect shoulder rest for a violin without the awkwardness of the traditional violin rest.

The adhesive disk on the pad permanently damaged the varnish on the back of my violin. It left a very pale, whitish stain on the instrument. To be fair, you have to hold the violin at a certain angle to see the damage, but it is there. No amount of rosin remover or polish I applied would remedy the defect.
