Natural Gas Leak Detector - UPGRADED Portable Propane Methane Combustible Gas Sniffer Detector with Sound & Light Alarm, Gas Tester

I bought this leak detector to help check my work for a couple upcoming projects. It more than paid for itself the day I got it. I was playing around with it to familiarize myself with how it works and just for grins and chuckles I ran it along some existing gas lines in a crawl space. Well wouldn't you know it started going off on one of the fittings. I got some soapy water to confirm, and sure enough, tiny bubbles. Fortunately it was a quick tightening with a wrench and all was well.You do have to get a feel for how to adjust the sensitivity, it also doesn't seem to like going big air temp changes. Once you get a feel for it you really can zero in on leaks very well. Its a great tool that gives peace of mind.

This product allowed me to prove to my landlord we had a leak of natural gas in the building and it forced him to get an emergency plumber to come fix the problem immediately Without the detector I don’t know what I would’ve done He wouldn’t call the gas company or the fire department but then I whipped out the detector and proved that there was natural gas leak around the stove and then he then all of a sudden sprung into action. The gas company ran their detectors in immediately confirmed my concerns. I also use this at my parents house and detected a leak on the outside of the building by the meter That to prove to also be accurate If people are leaving reviews that say it’s not working there clearly not using the product correctly It takes a bit to get used to by dialing it in slowly but it definitely works and can save you a lot of guesswork

I don’t quite understand how the dial works but I can say once I’ve dialed it in and hear the beeping I know it’s working. Needless to say I smelled gas while working in basement. Traced the pipes and it pinpointed exactly where the leak was and it was a small leak unnoticeable unless you were around that area. But I passed by it and smelled gas but the bubble test didn’t give any results. So for me this tool is paid for and well worth the money.

I was skeptical at first because there are so Many types of these units on the market, but once I had it set properly it works great. I'm a do-it-yourselfer and had recently changed an igniter on our gas hot water heater. I tested the area by using this sniffer and was relieved to know everything was just as I had hoped. No leaks! Love this unit.

This is completely useless. I am amassed at how much junk products with excellent reviews amazon have. Do reviews even mean anything these days?When the alarm volume is set to high, This product signal gas regardless of where you are. ( I went outside, 5ft from and house and it signal gaz). The opposite happens on lower volumes settings. It won’t signal anything (I opened the gas strove and point this thing at it and it never signal anything) .I tried to return but never received the return label hence I’m stuck with this garbage

I think the unit is fine, but it really is a "sniffer" which I did not catch, it would be great to find the exact location of a leak, but you really need a permanent monitor this is plugged in to a power source to alert you of a potential leak. The description was accurate, just not my understanding of what i needed when I installed my gas stove. I am not sending this back because I now have a permanent detector and if that goes off, I can use the other for detection of the exact leak location. Hope to never have to use it !!

Update (11/30/18): I was very surprised to receive an e-mail from the company recently offering me a replacement or refund. They also said they would work on improving the product so I very much appreciate this level of customer service. Adding one star.It has quite a delay in detecting leaks and sounding off. I almost missed a leak because the first time I went around a gas valve with it, I didn’t leave the sensor there long enough. I was about to pack it up and consider my patch job complete but decided to try it again but this time leave it longer and that’s when it went off. It’s something everyone needs to be aware of if they choose to purchase this item.

The price! It takes a few minutes to get the hang of it, after it “warms up” make it as sensitive as possible without setting it off then check your connections. I do it every time I change a LP tank, found a bad valve leaking on my patio with it and it’s a lot easier to use than soapy water, just make sure there’s no wind!
