Mityvac MV8510 Silverline Elite Automotive Brake/Clutch Bleeding, Diesel Fuel Priming and Vacuum/Pressure Testing Hand Pump, Ergonomic Design, Zinc-aluminum Die Cast, Dual Converter, 2" Compound Gauge

So I looked all around for hand vacuum pump and this is the one I settled on. It’s fantastic. BUT!!! Like other folks have stated the handle can and will pop out of place. The reason for this is two fold in my opinion. 1. Slow down when you’re pumping so the piston inside of the device can pull the handle back out. This is a hand pump, if you try to pump too fast the piston will not go back into place by the time you’re wanting to squeeze again and the handle will pop off the pivot point. 2. The design could for sure be updated. By either adding a pin or something between the handle and the main leverage/pivot point. I have a feeling though that adding something like that might make fixing it harder. The pin that connects the piston to the top of the handle really digs in, and eventually will need to have to be fixed due to wear. Put Teflon or graphite on there to reduce the wear there...but if they used compatible metals or secured that pin at the top better it may also last longer.

This review is about how I used the MityVac in combination with the Motive Power Bleeder to do a brake fluid job and be able to handle a contingency needing vacuum pressure. This thng works. Made bleeding brakes and replacing brake fluid easy for one person to do. I did not use the Motive Power Bleeder pump container to store the brake fluid. Instead I used the brake fluid reservoir as the fluid supply, and this kept the Power Bleeder bottle clean. When doing it this way you must be carefui to fill the brake fluid reservoir before doing each wheel so as not to accidently empty the master cylinder and introduce air into it, like I did when doing the last wheel which is closest to the master cylnder (oops). When doing the closest wheel you need to keep a closer eye on the fluid level in the reservoir because it empties faster than when doing the other lines (rear passenger side flows slowest since it's the longest line and the front driver side flows the fastest due to being the shortest line). If needed, a tip for a better seal on the master cylinder brake reservoir cap is to put a light coat of silicone grease on the rubber washer (silicone is compatible with rubber whereas petroleum based lubes are not). I fixed the problem of accidently emptying the master cylinder and was able to (I prepared ahead of time for this just in case) bleed the master cylnder of all air without having to disconnect any brake lines: 1. Tool used - Mityvac MV8510 Silverline Elite Hand Pump 2. Rubber stopper for the brake fluid reservoir was a solid 1-1/8 inch rubber sink stopper (size the 2010 Dodge Dakota takes and is equivalent to a #6 or #6.5 lab stopper). Drilled a small hole in it for a barb hose connector. You'll need to get a stopper that fits your vehicle. 3. Connect the hose from the barb of the MityVac to the barb of the stopper. 4. Put a light coat of silicone grease around the edge of the stopper and place the stopper into the opening of the master cylinder brake reservoir opening. May have to use hand pressure to hold down the stopper until a vacuum is established, depending on how hard/soft the stopper is. 5. Using the MityVaC pump a vacuum of 15 to 20 psi, repeatedly until all the air is sucked out. You'll know when all the air is sucked out when the gage holds a vacuum without dropping. The gage may drop slowly if the seals are not tight at the barbs, and if you have leaky connections you can use a gasket type sealant to make them airtight. When air bubbles in the master cylinder are extracted by the vacuum pressure, the gage will 'pop' to a less negative pressure, requiring another hand-pumping. 6. All air is out. Test brakes. Firm braking again - done. So, with the combination of the Motive Power Bleeder and Mityvac MV8510 Silverline Elite Hand Pump (in case), you can do a brake fluid job easy and neat, all the while keeping the equipment clean.

When I was making a decision to buy this pump some people were stating a nice case with attachments in their review and others stated just receiving the vacuum pump. It would have been nice to receive a cup for bleeding brakes. I ordered this because wanted a metal vacuum pump. I have an attached a picture with this review for others to know what to expect when purchasing. I haven’t used it yet but the unit seems well built. If it pulls vacuum and holds then I’ll be keeping the unit. I’ll provided a follow up of how it performs.

Draws vacuum and pressure with gauge. Very nice. All cast aluminum. Strong but pretty heavy. Might be fatiguing if operating with one hand for a long period of time. Works great.

Good for purpose

This pump is much better feeling than the plastic version. Spend the few extra bucks and get this one.

Im a small engine technician and I use this tester everyday 5-20 times pressure & vacuum testing Stihl chainsaws. The gauge swivels and sits at an angle. I am not fan of either. My old pump (Stihl Issue) had a straight fixed gauge which I was used to, I thought the swivel/angle might grow on me but it hasn't. The gauge only reads in PSI, there are no BAR increments which would be convenient for me. As far as i can tell the gauge cannot be swapped out either because it has a special swivel fitting, no threads. That said this pump is of high quality and after a few months of daily use it is holding up well. Comes with a nice length of clear vinyl tubing to stick on the end. You can bleed pressure or vacuum by clutching the lever below the gauge which I like. Switching between pressure and vacuum is also made simple with a quarter turn knob below the gauge. The positions are clearly marked.

My 2nd purchase. They usually last me 3 years. Great product! Highly recommended.

En general buen producto, se descompuso el primer dia de uso, aunque solo ocupaba la pata o manibela, la cual es de acero resistente, quiza de alguna aleacion de niquel, pero el circuito interno es atroz, se estropeo con unos cuantos bombeos, por otro lado no da supcion. pero como solo requeria la manibela por lo demas esta bien para mi....

A must have for testing vacuum or pressure controled car parts. Sturdier than cheaper plastic version and should be also easier to rebuild in case any sealing fails.
