The Best Animal / Pet Game - Fun AND Learning
My kids love this game and unlike other pey/animal games, here they actually learn something and have fun learning. The sounds, colors and actions are really engaging for the kids and we all have fun with the Triva game... again fun and education and they actually feel like a real Vet!This is a can't miss 'no-brainer' if you have kids and would like them to learn somethin every now and then while having fun with their Ninetndo DS! WELL worth the money...

Introducing your child to animal care
Being a physician, and having a child interested in treating animals, I wanted my daughter to try this game. You start with a tutorial, walking the user through a typical patient encounter. You begin by taking a history, taking vital signs, and doing a physical assessment. Then there are various types of treatment that can be rendered based upon the disease of your patient. As you examine the pets, there is feedback on patient comfort. Your goal is to maximize diagnostic accuracy and patient comfort. The fewer unnecessary questions and more precise your moves with the stylus, the higher the score. As you meet various goals, you progress in level. You do various functions, such as using a stethescope, x-ray, urine and blood draws, rectal temperature, and palpation. The functions are quite extensive. Icons are quite small and some are indiscernible. The game utilizes the stylus as the main method of control. Most functions are intuitive but there are tasks, such as auscultation, that require more accuracy (tapping the stylus in various sized circles on the patient).Graphics are very good for this platform. Sound effects and music are decent. This game requires some hand / eye coordination to succeed and may be difficult with younger children.Overall, this is a solid game that is pretty realistic as a veterinary simulator. My daughter likes it but there have been times of frustration, too. I recommend observing your child while he or she plays to assist them in their endeavors.

Got this game for my 9 year old who loves animals. The game is a little harder to play. In one area of the the game, it keeps going to the same scene. However my 9 year old did say she would recommend this game to others.

Logic is lacking
It's a cute game and semi-educational, but sometimes things just don't make sense. I often end up hitting the hint button because I've tried to inspect the parts of the animal that were mentioned by the owner and they're wrong. Then the hint says to look at something unrelated out of nowhere. There's nothing to direct you that way. Items can't be done out of order whether or not they're related. I can understand not randomly letting you bandage or give medicine before you've realized there's an injury or sickness, but why does it matter which order you check pulse, temp and breathing? And more importantly, if it matters why aren't they consistently in the same order so you can know which one to hit?The concept of the game is pretty good. The graphics are ok and the tools are all well laid out and all function well on the touchscreen (except I consistently had trouble with the x-ray not registering). I just lost all interest in it because the only option was to pick something at (semi-)random and lose points for it or click hint and play the entire game as an elaborate version of simon says.Oh, and those mini-games where you can "learn about animals" are trivia questions, the square tile-sliding puzzles and match. What are you going to learn about animals from sliding tiles and matching picture cards?

i give it four stars for a reason
Pet Pals is a fun game that lets you explore and learn how to be a vet. When done with a patient you feel good a bout yourself because it feels as if you just saved an innocent animal. Now the bad part.....when you finish a leval (say..easy) and go on to a different one its the same thing you just did except with no flashing icons and its not even harder and there arent harder tasks and there arent different types of animals. But overall, its a good game
