Easy, fun, and delicious!
I love mushrooms, but had never seriously entertained the idea of growing them before. I had a friend mention mushroom kits which peaked my interest, so I decided to give it a go. I decided on oyster mushrooms because they are a personal favorite of mine and a bit hard to come by where I live. The growing process is extremely simple from start to finish. All you have to do it cut an X , agitate the top layer of "soil", and mist twice daily with the included sprayer. I put my log(?) on a table in front of my kitchen window which gets a lot of natural sunlight (but never any direct sunlight) and followed the steps. The instructions said that it can take up to a week before you see growth, but mine started after a couple of days. Watching the mushrooms grow was strangely satisfying! They grew shockingly fast and would double in size sometimes within the same 24 hour period. About a week after starting the grow kit, I had a beautiful crop of mushrooms ready to harvest. They tasted great and I look forward to buying another kit soon! Would highly recommend the product to mushroom lovers or anyone who may want to overwhelm their friends and family with daily pictures of shockingly fast growing mushrooms. P.S. - One thing that I did a bit differently from the instructions was mist more than the instructions called for (somewhere around 15 or 16 sprays each time and sometimes more than twice a day). Since I don't know the counter factual, I'm not sure if that helped or hurt my final product, so I am not explicitly recommending it. Regardless, I was very happy with the batch I got.

Hardy and easy to grow
This stuff turned out surprisingly well. I got several harvests out of it. The growth patterns of the mushrooms can be a little unpredictable sometimes, and you don't always know how long it will take for you to get the next wave, but they were pretty hardy. I received them in August and not it's almost January, and the fungus is still alive. It's struggling to grow a mushroom at this stage, but it's still trying. I've even tried experimenting with growing the mycelium in coffee grounds, and it's still going strong. My advice is to follow the instructions and to not give up too easily on it. At some points, some nasty mold grew on the block, but I found that if I watered it more, the oyster mushroom mycelium would fight back and take over again. I used water from a jug from the store rather than city tap water, though I don't know what difference it made. Just make sure you water it a lot. Unlike houseplants, it's nearly impossible to over-water this stuff. The only place I'd suggest deviating from the instructions is the part where it says to wrap the block in a paper towel for a week. I would advise against this. This is what caused the mold growth one time, and another time, mushrooms grew under the paper towels and got all squished. If you do this, it can end up getting dried out. Maybe you should just keep it wrapped up like that for a day or two while the excess water drains out. Overall, this stuff is hardy and easy to grow if you give you just give it a little attention every day. The mushrooms were pretty good eating too. They have a delicate flavor, but they have to be cooked quite a bit. Even just for their aesthetics, they're quite beautiful to look at.

Super Worth it.
Perfect, got 2 nice harvest. Will purchase again in the future. Grew next to a Golden Oyster mushroom with no issue.

From mycelium to next week's dinner; the best amazon purchase I've made yet.
[Before my review starts, let me state that those who are giving this a one-star rating don’t have high humidity where they live or enough oxygen for these mushrooms, as they require both of the two factors to grow and get the same results I’ve attained.] Yes, you read that right, you too can turn this moldy block of substrate into a powerful dinner that’s both delicious AND has amazing health benefits. While I still suggest you cut the 1” ‘X’ where drawn on the block, I was able to grow significantly more through the use of a monotub (basically a mushroom greenhouse). I got my block in the mail on October 7th, and let it rest in an undisturbed, dark area for a whole day, to let the mycelium fully cultivate the bag. During that extra time of rest, I set up my monotub! They’re very simple to set up, but do require quite a few materials; an AC computer fan/lizard humidity fogger/breathable tape/perlite/dimmable LED light/AC Hygrometer controller/lamp & fan digital timers/clear tote. There are several different videos online and everyone has their own methods of putting it together, and I’ll list my settings for how I grew them over the week. The relative humidity sat at 85%-95% with fresh air blown over the mushrooms at 12 minutes every 3 hours daily. As you can see from these photos, this was a fun experiment and an amazing example of what a monotub could do. Being a first time grower, I learned what to do better for the future, as you can see that these mushrooms highly prefer to grow on the sides of the block (side fruiting) rather than on the top. These mushrooms also have many health benefits when cooked as well, so that’s quite a bonus! They’re an excellent substitute for meats in foods like pasta and tacos, and have quite the unique hammy flavor to them! If you’ve got plenty of humidity and fresh air, you’ll get an excellent first flush.

Seems to grow just about as well as any house plant ive had
I followed the directions (spray 7-8 pumps 2 times per day) and they dont seem to be growing right. Theyre all small and clumpped in the middle and larger on the outside. Why would they grow like that? Did i get a partially bad batch? Did i spray them too little or too much? Are they all edible or should i try one of the big ones? Can i just pick and eat it or do i need to cook it or somehow treat it?

Dont give up on the block until you are sure its dead
So ordered this in spring. When it arrived i was so excited i did not verify that it had completely colonized before cutting the slit in the block. After a day of misting under a humidity tent, the block started to grow green forest mold on the top. I figured the thing was a waste of money and time. But to me this was an experiment and no result is inconsequential. So i watched it for the next week. To my amazement fruits did not come out of the slit but rather the 4 small holes i poked chopsticks into for the humidity tent. I got a 3/4 lb first flush. I pulled it out and left it on the table while i did other things for the next 10 days. Again i saw it fruiting out of the chopstick holes. I re-tented it and brought the humidity up. Second flush was around 1/2lb. Another thing i did not expect was that the mycelium was eating the green mold. I let the block dry for another week and then misted the slit directly for 2 days with RO water. The third flush was again around 1/2 lb and tasted great. It flushed twice more but very little mushrooms came out...maybe 1/3lb over both flushes. The block never stopped flushing, i finally just tossed it into my compost bin with some weeds and wood chippings from yard work. We will see if it makes mushrooms in the bin this fall. I took some of the inner block and spawned it off to some popcorn to make a spawn for straw. Well this has started the most mind consuming experimenting that i have ever done and now i have a hydro grow tent with this pink oyster, golden oyster and Lion's Mane in it. all growing like crazy. So be careful, if you are a scientist at heart and love to discover new things and have a tendency to like to tinker with things and run experiments, DO NOT buy a mushroom kit! It is very addicting and WILL take you away from your family.....but they will have some awesome mushrooms ;)
