My model uses the newer NVMe connections for internal drives (which is faster than a SATA connection). If your T440 does not have an NVMe connection, this particular Toshiba NVMe M.2 drive won't work. You will need to stick with an M.2 drive that is SATA-based. For those who own a Lenovo Thinkpad T480 (or newer) with NVMe connections, you can install an NVMe M.2. 2280 (in whatever capacity you can afford) in the main motherboard slot and install an NVMe M.2. 2242 on the motherboard designated as a wireless WAN slot. This slot will only accept the shorter 2242 form factor (not anything larger such as the 2280 form factor). These smaller NVMe 2242 M.2 drives are harder to come by. I found a number of youtube videos that helped me immensely (including disabling the internal battery), opening the laptop case, and knowing the locations of where to install the M.2 drives. Remember this, a SATA M.2. drive is different from (and slower than) an NVMe M.2 drive, even though they are both solid-state drives.
