I could not put this book down once I started reading it. Each chapter was like going to Saturday brunch with my much wiser spiritual adviser best friend. Shandia speaks directly to the heart of women by relating to them with her Moments Of Transparency MOTs. Like a friend who shares her personal challenges so that you won’t make similar mistakes and instead grow. I used the reflection questions as a daily devotion and to guide my prayed. With each letter, I felt more empowered and encouraged. This book would be an amazing church book study for a teen-adult women. Wonderful Book.

While this book is intended for younger girls to help them with self-love, I used it in a group of women of different ages from 21-60. The thoughts, stories and Bible verses used in almost all the chapters were just as relatable to the group I work with. Simple yet wise. The author exhibits wisdom in this writing that could only come from G-d! One could say this is an inspired writing!I used the book as a point of discussion and many of the women responded with tears and at times laughter. I believe it helped in the healing process in some of their lives. So glad I found this book and would highly recommend for any woman to grab a copy— whether for your niece, granddaughter, daughter or any young or hurting woman in your life-outside of the Bible this is another great resource to have. In a world so broken, in a world where women are not always valued — this book points to the only ONE who can give us value!

Dear Brooklyn, Love Yourself...is a very well-written book that will not only encourage and inspire young girls, but will even resonate with those of us who are "wise in years". In the book, Shandia Booker discusses important topics such as: embracing your flaws, forming healthy friendships, forgiveness, and finding your passion and purpose. Each chapter begins with a noteworthy quote which prepares girls for the "real talk" that follows. With each letter written to Brooklyn (who is truly any brown/black inner-city young lady), you can hear the author's "voice" and the passion in the message being conveyed. With a rich mix of honesty, humility, and humor, Booker takes the reader on a journey of self-discovery and self-love. Incorporating Scriptures to Explore, Words of Encouragement, and Reflection Questions, Booker allows all of the "Brooklyns" who are reading to begin the process of soul-searching which lays the foundation for lifelong reflection and growth. Booker eloquently wraps up all of the knowledge she passes on by encouraging girls to write a personal vision and mission statement, and then guides them in creating an action plan for accomplishing goals. For anyone who teaches, works with, or simply knows young girls of color, this book can and should be used as an integral part of educating, encouraging, and empowering the next generation of strong Women!

Wow! This is a great book! I received my book on Friday. I couldn’t put it down!!! It was engaging and relatable! The author did a great job of formatting each chapter as letter to the reader. It made the connection even more personable. The author ends each chapter with questions, scriptures, and some words of wisdom. It allows time for the reader to interact and reflect on the information shared in chapter.This is an excellent book for young girls, but I believe it will encourage and inspire women of all ages.As the author encourages her readers in the book...I say to this author...Glow on Girl!!!✨I plan to purchase additional books to give as gifts.

Got this for a teen girl at school who’s struggling with self esteem thank you

What a great book! Although it was written with young girls in mind, I feel that this will inspire girls and women of all ages; it definitely encouraged me to do some self-reflecting after a few of the chapters. The structure of the book makes it feel really personal and relatable. I especially loved the words of wisdom, moments of transparency and the scriptures she encourages us to explore. I think this book will spark some difficult but necessary conversations, motivate many women to walk in their purpose, remind them of their worth and inspire self-love! Great job Shandia!

Dear Brooklyn is an amazing love letter to every young lady, reminding her to Love Herself as God Loves Her. It is written in a fashion that speaks to the interest of the audience - preteen, teenagers, and young adults. This is truly a masterpiece writing and I would recommend that we - myself included - buy this for ourselves and all the young ladies in our lives. In addition to the letter, each chapter asks thought provoking questions that would serve well to spark conversation with oneself, between a parent and young lady, or among a group.

I feel like this book should have God listed as a co-author. This is an incredible tool to use with young women who struggle to find their sense of self, see their value and love their individual beauty. Each page feels as if Shandia is sitting right next to you, speaking to you directly. The spirit of Him jumps off of each page and fills your heart with His love and calms your soul with His grace. This will also be immeasurably helpful for adult women who have struggled with the same issues throughout their life, especially when they are seeing their lack of self love create issues for them as adults. Even if you feel like you don’t need help in these departments. Read it. There is a beautiful perspective for everyone who is brave enough to crack the spine of it and learn to love themselves.
