Cook your way through the World; with stunning illustrations and stories that take this book to another level.

This is a beautiful book that would be at home on a coffee table as much as in the kitchen! It is filled with not only beautiful pictures of the food they create, but also the authors travels. In a nutshell, these authors have done what many of us can only dream of - travelled all over the world and immersed themselves in the cultures and of course the foods, of the places which they have visited. As stated in the opening message to their daughter Elsa -in her first 4 years of life she visited 15 countries and 5 continents. They slept on couches, ate in the homes and streets of the locals and learned from them, replicating the recipes though the pages of this book! It is an interesting read as much as it is a cookbook! It begins with a history of their travels and also includes travel tips, then they go on to tell us how though they use the influences from their travels to create these recipes they are also adapted to be healthier, greener , gluten free so you can enjoy the cultural traditions in ,manner that is better for you.The book is then divided into the following sections : Breakfasts, Street Foods and Snacks, Soups, Dinners, Drips and Drops (aka drinks) ,Desserts and Condiments. One thing I was pleasantly surprised at, given the wide cultural reach of these recipes, was that most of the ingredients are everyday and easy to find! And where ingredients might at a little offbeat such as pomegranate molasses, there were suggested substitutes!Though I am not the best cook in the world these recipes were also surprisingly uncomplicated. Of course there are some that are going to take work such as making your own sweet potato gnocchi , some such as the salads simply involved throwing everything into one bowl in one go and whipping up a simple dressing to accompany it!To date I have made several of the recipes: The Chilled Rice pudding and Citrus syrup as it reminds me of a dessert I ate back home in the UK; the Farro Salad which we enjoyed this weekend and had enough to last 2 days which was delicious ; and the Quinoa, Almond and Mint salad. Next on my list is the Vietnamese Pho as I cannot get anything like it locally! I am also excited to try some of the breakfasts as I am always on a quest to find a protein and energy heavy start for my kids that they will enjoy! The pictures and stories behind the recipes are really the icing on the cake. They are inspiring and make you want to go out and explore the world and its cuisines, the latter of which this book does truly help you accomplish! I really love this book and cannot wait to keep cooking my way though the world with its help!

Travel through your stomach as you cook and eat your way through healthy vegetarian takes on global cuisines.

*by K***F on Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2014*

I like the Green Kitchen Stories take on picking out flavors from a global palate. They remain true to their own compass of eating healthfully with mostly vegan and often gluten free foods without resorting to strange meat substitutes. I enjoy their spin on different ethnic cuisines while remaining true to the cuisine, they "lighten" the dishes. For example, their version of a pasta dish uses zucchini noodles instead or of simplifying Indian Masala Dosa and make it more accessible. Always going for a healthier version of street foods, they even came up with a vegetarian version of pho, the iconic Vietnamese noodle dish with a flavorful vegetarian broth! The book is full of recipes that I want to incorporate into our regular rotation of healthy things to eat.I recommend this book highly as they seem to have their pulse on how I like to try and eat, even if we (through no fault of the authors') cannot always eat as cleanly.

    Pretty Styling, Recipes Flawed

*by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2019*

Great photography and styling. Exciting travel stories. Recipes with potential, but sadly many seem flawed with minor problems that could have been cleaned up if the recipes had been tested thoroughly enough. Probably each recipe was made no more than once or twice before being added to the book, which wrecks havoc on the homecook who is trying to make a delicious meal at the end of a busy work day. If this author ever reads my review, don't be discouraged! I think you have great potential to create wonderful recipes, and I love how you incorporate your travels into the food. In the future, just take more time in the recipe construction and be more disciplined in your test kitchen to work out the kinks and simplify the complicated so that the home-cook doesn't feel completely drained after making the recipe . All the best!
