Jimmy Page by Jimmy Page is the photographic autobiography and visual history of the world’s most iconic guitar player. With incredible attention to detail, Page has chosen hundreds of photographs representing significant moments in his career: from a schoolboy with a rock-a-billy quiff through his extensive work as a session musician; including The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin, ARMS, The Firm, Outrider, Coverdale & Page and Page & Plant; playing with Roy Harper and The Black Crowes; collaborating with P. Diddy and performing with Leona Lewis at the closing ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Both Genesis Publications and Jimmy Page have sifted through thousands of images representing the work of more than 70 photographers including some of the greatest names in rock photography Ross Halfin, Kate Simon, and Gered Mankowitz, to name but a few. Included are a mixture of iconic portraits, rare and unseen photographs from Jimmy’s archive along with visas, photos and stamps from his own passports. Page has officially put pen to paper about his career taking the form of extended captions, which describe and document pivotal moments and events making this book an historical document and a definitive visual record of a remarkable life of music. Review: Great Zeppelin fan book . - Brought as a gift Zep fan loved this book . Review: Incredible photography book - better than Led Zeppelin's 50th Anniv. Book - I will admit that I am a guitar player, and that Jimmy is my favorite guitarist, so seeing photos of him is going to appeal to me more than the 50th anniversary Zep book that recently came out (which should've been a true autobiography written in the style of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" where the surviving band members, and selected associates and friends, tell their own story) , but this maybe my favorite rock photography book ever. It sits right on my coffee table in my living room. I love the outlining of the Zeppelin's concert dates and Jimmy's interesting observations of the photos. The book was a little light on photos from the 1980-1985 period, but Jimmy was in really bad shape at that time, so I can understand why he chose to keep that period to a minimum. Fantastic book. Worth every cent. But please, can the band write it's own autobiography so that we can get the real truth instead of all these unauthorized biographies from disgruntled ex-employees.?

A Very Spectacular Book! Amazing Photos! Interesting Text
This Book is the perfect Christmas present, it is big, very heavy, the photos inside are amazing! All what Jimmy Page wrote inside is very interesting, there is not much text but the little said says a lot! I am chiefly stunned by the quality of work and efforts put in this book, and the memory he has. I am seriously very impressed by this book and his author. I was already impressed by his music, now I know what kind of genius spirit is behind all this. Also the cover is beautiful, great choice of photo for the cover, engraved slightly shiny golden letters, mat finish for the rest of the material. This book is almost like a piece of Art by itself. The least we can say, is that this book is certainly not a joke! I don't regret to have bought it!

A Must Have
when i first heard this book (2 years ago) was limited edition (3000 ? or something) , signed and available internet only i was so mad (for a better word.) By chance, i found out it was becoming available worldwide - jumped at the chance pre-ordering it. It arrived - i must say this is the heaviest book I have ever lifted - its glossy type paper for the high quality and many rare photographs. As mentioned Page's passports are used to verify dates. Also included are Page -era Yardbird tour dates and Led Zeppelin tour dates, almost every band or artist band he has performed on stage are included. (but no Willie and the Poorboys). Page mentions some sessions he was on this die hard fan never knew about - THE BEATLES - "A Hard Days Night"soundtrack lp(We can assume its the GEORGE MARTIN ORCHESTRA instrumentals - not a Beatles performance song) and Dusty Springfield and a French female artist in 1964 (sorry - dont have the book with me.....) Its there - go out and purchase this book - its worth it. Obviously there are no errors in this book - its coming from the man himself. Sure ya probably seen most of these photos over 40 books - buts its all here!

A Feast for the Eyes
The Master, The Genius, THE God of the Rock n' Roll Guitar put together this glorius photograhic feast for the eyes. This beautiful, deeply personal record of Page's career thoroughly takes fans through the years. A real gift from Jimmy.

Very, very nice!
This is a very nice pictorial of Jimmy Page's musical career from a choir boy to today. I had seen many of the photos but most of them I had not. There were a few stunning portraits of the man that almost took my breath away. I think that it is a miracle that he and most band members managed to survive LZ. Page looks better today with his silver hair, black eyebrows and twinkling green eyes than he did twenty years ago. An amazing man, an amazing talent. The book weighs a ton. The cover is great. The binding questionable. Be careful when handling it. I am very glad I bought it. It takes me back to my youth, when there was still hope. Loved the clothes I saw and wish I had a few of the shirts page wore. I did have a chuckle when I saw a grouping of pictures of the band when they were just starting to tour. In one picture Plant is wearing a see-through black shirt with flowers on it. In the next picture you see Bonham wearing it. The budget must have been very tight.

"Print the Legend"
The above quote was what a reporter character said to James Stewart's character in the John Ford western, "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance." Yes, it's a western, but that line can apply to other areas as well. I don't know if Jimmy Page has seen the movie, but I'm certain that he would understand the value of that line. It seems that one of the chief tenets of the Led Zeppelin legacy is that the surviving members have remained coy about the group's near mythic history. It isn't so much about what they said, it's what they didn't say. The gaps that they seemed to have left appear to be intentional. After all, there's no such thing as bad publicity right? And therein lies the mystery which seems to be central to the band's story. As to Page himself, he has never passed comment on any of the many tales which surrounded the band. He has referred to one of the more infamous incidents only obliquely by saying, "Would anyone still be interested in the mud shark if the music hadn't been there?" Which sums up Page's whole outlook really. For Jimmy Page, the music will be the thing, now and forever more. It has been the literary rage of late for the great rockers to publish their memoirs. The list is a long and distinguished one: Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Pete Townsend, Neil Young and Rod Stewart have all produced books in the last decade. No doubt that the members of Led Zeppelin, have been similarly approached by publishers and were likely spurned with the exception of Page himself. Jimmy Page has not not written so much a memoir but instead, has compiled what amounts to a private photo album. Undoubtedly he decided to produce a book on his terms and it's to his credit that it's an entirely different beast altogether. "Jimmy Page by Jimmy Page," is a massive assembling of photos which span his career; from his youth to his years as one of the hottest session guitarists of his day, his time in the Yardbirds is covered more thoroughly than even I expected. The Led Zeppelin years are covered deeply and are the heart of the book. His post Zeppelin career is also included. This book functions as Page's memoir. There are no groupie stories or tales of excess here. Page's minimal use of commentary adds to the legend. Still it's a fascinating glimpse of Jimmy Page doing heat he wants to be best known for, which is as a musician. This is about as close as we are likely to get to the man himself short of seeing him in concert. Originally published as a signed, 2500 copy limited edition in 2010, "Jimmy Page by Jimmy Page," is his carefully selected and highly distilled portrait and it's the way he wants us to remember him. The book is unsurprisingly short on commentary aside from locations and dates. But the pics are a Jimmy Page fan's dream and more than makes up visually for what Page doesn't say verbally. The book sold out almost immediately in its original edition, despite its high price tag. It's been a highly sought after item for high end collectors. However, it drew criticism from fans who also wanted a copy, but could not afford one. Now, it's available in a much more affordable edition. My copy has a split in the spine, so I think the publisher could have done a better job. But then the book was printed in China so no surprises there. Still, the book is filled with images of Jimmy Page in full guitar hero glory. Fans will lose themselves for hours (such as I have) with all the pics contained within (I also suggest that you have some Zeppelin blasting while perusing this tome). True, it doesn't lift the veil off the Led Zeppelin myth (would the LZ story be as interesting if we knew all the details? I don't think so), but it does give us a view of one of Rock's most iconic figures as he wants us to which is a trick in itself and in the end, is pretty awesome.

Let The Photos Do The Talking
First off, $37.95 is very reasonable for a coffee table book; I've paid much more for them. This book was initially a limited release and was about $700 US dollars! After two years the masses finally got it, and I appreciate that. There are a bunch of photos I've never seen, though I do wish there were some more off stage personal ones. Jimmy is a precise person and I appreciated the correct tour information and how he had the years on the bottom of each page. For those who wanted more writing...well, that was never his intention as Jimmy believes it's all about the music, not his personal life. That's just who he is, and Robert is different, which is why Robert was the lyricist. Jimmy's soul is in the intro to the Rain Song, for example. With all the other Led Zeppelin photo books out there, it's nice to finally have one from the man himself. The book is heavy, and the binding is not very tight in some places, I must admit, and a few of the pages are a little loose at the top after bending it open. Otherwise I have no complaints for a $37.95 book. This is definitely a book to have in your Led Zeppelin collection.

As close as we are likely to get to an autobiography
Most Led Zep fans are frustrated at the lack of autobiographical information available about their musical heroes. Hence the value of this book which is according to Jimmy Page an autobiography as told through photographs. In this review I will concentrate on the package rather than the contents, although suffice it say the photographs take us from a young choirboy to a sexagenarian receiving an honorary doctorate from the University of Berklee. In between we can map Jimmy from young skiffle player, through teddy-boy, to 60s rocker and his ultimate status as a rock-god. What may surprise many is that the last half of the book is beyond Led Zeppelin and we sometimes forget that Page has been a working musician his entire life and not just up until the unfortunate events that surround the end of Led Zeppelin. The packaging of the book is first class. Mine came shrink-wrapped in cellophane and in a box sturdy enough to protect the contents. Be aware that this is a very heavy book. So heavy that I would recommend it be stored flat, or in a book case supported either side by other books. I left it standing upright for an evening and I was surprised that it had distorted slightly over night. The paper is of good quality which not only adds to the weight but means that kept carefully this book will last a long time.

Jimmy Page by Jimmy Page
Libro veramente bello e interessante sul mitico Jimmy Page. Tutto da sfogliare con immagini stupende. Meno didascalico del suo libro pubblicato dopo ma ugualmente da avere se si ama questo grandissimo chitarrista.

A great detailed account of his life in the music industry. If you are a Led Zeppelin fan or the music industry of the 60s and 70s, you will enjoy this book.
