Best Electric Kettle
If I could give this kettle/hot pot 10 stars. I would! I use this multiple times daily for hot water, tea, soup, hot chocolate, ramen, and more. Its size, quick heating, easy cleanup, and comfortable handle make this versatile kettle my “go to.” It heats to boiling so quickly that I learned to not put it on the actual boiling setting. I only set it at midpoint and have boiling water or contents in just 1-2 minutes! It’s faster than a microwave and uses less energy, more versatile than a Keurig, and definitely beats using a stove-top kettle. I wish the cord was retractable or wound around the base, but it’s short and easy to manage so not a big deal. I highly recommend this for home use and it would be perfect to use at the office or in an RV!

Compact, surprisingly decent, priced right
We bought this hot pot for a camper on the go. We were pleasantly surprised to see how spot-on the advertising is: It boils water in about 2~3 minutes which is great for tea, and keeps it boiling long enough for a package of ramen. The diameter is perfect for the standard sized and circular ramen bricks; "fancy" ramen that is a little larger you kind of have to finesse in while boiling but it softens up fast and works well. Even though we stir it anyway, the heating area seems even as we can watch the noodles circulate from top to bottom while boiling. We haven't made anything terribly messy in it except for one dish that was designed to simmer and boil down to preparedness. It was a little rough cleaning burny bits off the hot plate (don't forget, do NOT use metal to clean it) but they are completely gone without a trace after a few boils so I can't complain much.I was a little concerned about the plastic nature of the pot itself in the beginning, but after a nearly 3-digit number of things prepared, it is holding up very well. Other comments about the steam vent's placement are accurate. Seems like common sense, but don't put your hand over it or your hand will scald. I guess they could've moved them to the front of the pot for ergonomics. *shrug*I'm not sure if it's this model or just our hotpot or what, but for some reason we only get about 5 minutes of constant water boil out of it before the hotpot clicks off. This isn't a huge issue but gets a little weird when making mac&cheese and you spend a minute *not* boiling the water, then things go back to normal. Speaking of mac&cheese, note that the size is 32oz. Typical instructions say you'll need 6 cups of water (ie. 48oz) so don't expect to be able to do wonders!Last but not least, we are thankful for the temp control, but it doesn't seem to provide a true variance in temperature. It's just a variable smooth non-clicky knob, seems either "warm" or "boil" are the useful positions as an end-user and in-between is just...there.Bottom line: Everyone seems to be paying twice as much for hotpots designed to do what this one does, and the other ones seem to have weird issues. Despite its shortcomings , we have been happy with this hotpot and would buy another one in a heartbeat.

Works well but lowest level still boils

Works well.
Boils water quickly, stays warm nicely and cleans up easily. Great gift for a college student or anyone else living in a smaller space.

Easy to use cooks ramen to perfection in under 5 minutes
The pot is great. Easy to use. Our only complaint is the temp control isn't really much of a control. Other then that great! My kids love ramen and this makes it easy for my 8 year old to make it herself with way less worry. There is a spout, the handle stays pretty cool and easy to grab even if she uses an oven mitt. Not one spill yet.

Non adjuatable thermostat. No off button. Irremovable cable
The kettle is nice that the top is wider than the base, so what is being cooked is not hampered by a small opening. The lid is about 6" diameter, including spout and handle it's diameter is about 9.5". This makes it wider than a normal kettle, so I find no advantage here for travel. The kettle heats quite rapidly, also using it to cook food in a container has not melted said container (noodles in a ziplock bag), which is good.Although the heat dial shows to have multiple steps between Warm and Boil, the thermostat only changes once; from boil to warm. The cable is part of the kettle so can not be removed, unlike most kettles on the market. Also there is no off button/position so the only way to turn it off is to unplug it.The lid is VERY stiff. This means that if you are not very careful hot water can spill onto you.I am unsure if there is an auto off feature if the kettle dries out, but (due to all that is missing already) I sincerely doubt if it has one.I thought this would be a better kettle due to having the Protor Silex name attached and think that a better kettle with more functionality can be purchased for the same price.I hope that this is helpful

Fire Hazard
I got one of these secondhand in college. Despite the dial of temperature settings, this thing had only two: off, and flash boil. When I moved out of my dorm, I put it in the trash room with a note: DANGEROUS, BROKEN, DO NOT USE.Fast forward four years, I needed an electric cooker for work. I forgot what my old one looked like, and this seemed fine, so I ordered it. I came to realize that this is the same thing I had in college, and that my old one wasn't broken. It was working as intended. There is no way to slowly heat up food, or simmer. The dial doesn't seem to do anything specific, because you have to listen for the "click" of the heating mechanism for the heat to begin. Sometimes, you turn the dial to the Low setting, it clicks, and your soup is at a rolling boil in 20 seconds. Other times, you turn it to High, and it doesn't click. You wait, and wait, and wait. Turn it back to Off. Wait. Then turn it up to 3. Clicks. Bubbling over the sides in 15 seconds. I don't know if the "power trigger" on the inside keeps being pushed out of the way by the dial, and that's why it doesn't work properly, but it's really unacceptable. The heating mechanism is basically out of control, so cooking food is a game of standing there and turning the thing off and on again to prevent things from burning onto the bottom. Please do not buy this dangerous device.
