Easy to bait
Easy to bait and set. Performs as advertised, but felt the price was a bit high.

They Work. Kills Large Rats
We had an invasion of large Norway rats. These things were terrifying. I bought a bunch of these traps, baited them with dog food, and in four days caught 37 rats. You could hear these traps snapping day and night. I'm not exaggerating. When my pest control guy could finally come out to take care of the problem professionally, he was astonished at the sheer number of rodents. He also disposed of their remains. These traps kill the rodent quickly and humanely, far preferable to glue traps

Very easy to use & reuse -- and EFFECTIVE!
I've had an infestation of chipmunks who were living under my wood deck & burrowing under the slab my house sits on. I won't use poison & I hated the wooden snap traps - they're difficult/dangerous to set & rather than try to empty them, I would just throw them out with the dead rodent still in it which got expensive. These traps have been a game changer! I fill the bait cups with a little peanut butter, set them outside, & let them do their work. And let me tell you they do work! I have gotten 30 chipmunks in the past month (I was shocked there were that many, so there's a cautionary tale for you all) & 3 rats that I didn't even know had been around. No need to clean the traps after a kill - I just wear nitrile gloves when handling the traps so I don't get my scent on them. Rodent disposal is as easy as opening the trap like a chip clip & letting the dead rodent fall into the trash. Then just re-bait as needed and set the trap back up. If you're on the fence about buying these traps, don't be. This is money better spent than on anything else you'll try.

Works great kills rats the first time
I really like these traps I put them out by where the rats dug under the block fence and came out. I killed four of them before the rest of them got wise and now they stay away from them I would be extremely happy if I could get the rest of them to go for the peanut butter and snap their necks

Most effective way to get rats, but you need to use some tricks
I have tried EVERYTHING under the sun to trap rats around our property. My wife has a dozen bird feeders and we go through about 50 lbs of sunflower seeds, peanuts, and other kinds of bird feed every month. A lot of that ends up on the ground and it is an irresistible attractant for mice and rats. We also have a couple of wood piles and a thick stand of bamboo that seem to be ideal habitat for them. Long story short, we have a constant and ongoing battle with rats.I've tried glue traps, electronic zappers, poison bait, etc. They ALL have negatives, but these tomcat traps are the most reliable, most effective, and the easiest to overcome the negative aspects of any other option.Because we have so many birds in the yard, I have to be VERY careful that I don't inadvertently kill them in a trap. We also have a lot of night time visitors OTHER than rats (possums, skunks, raccoons, voles, etc). This makes glue traps a no-go for outside. With poisons, you have two major issues to deal with - (1) you can't control where the rats die and (2) the dead rats can poison other beneficial animals (and pets!). So poisons are pretty much also a no-go other than in extreme circumstances where I need to quickly knock down a sudden population explosion and I can stay on top of things very carefully. With these "snap traps" there are a couple of tricks that make them MUCH more effective and more useful. First, you MUST fasten them down somehow - I don't recommend a tether - affixing them to a stable surface is more effective. If I'm setting them up on the ground (like near a wood pile) I will screw them to a long 2 x 4 and then bury the 2x4 so that the trap(s) are flush to the ground. Second, you need to "pre-load" the traps by pushing down the trigger paddle until it is at the point JUST before it goes off. This takes some practice, but it makes the traps MUCH more effective since a much lighter touch will cause them to go off. I've studied the way the rats approach these traps using a game camera (motion activated with night vision) and they are extremely adept at removing bait without triggering the traps unless you take this step to pre-load the trigger. The downside of this approach is that rats that would otherwise get away will get trapped. This means that about 30% of the time a rat will get caught by a leg or will not be killed because it doesn't' have to be standing inside the trap for it to fire. In these situations, it is very helpful if you (or someone else in the house) is able to quickly and humanely dispatch the rat so that it does not continue to suffer. (Not to be macabre, but I usually use a piece of 1.5" dowel as a club or use gardening shears as a guillotine depending on the situation.)Bottom line for the money, these traps are extremely effective, durable (unlike expensive zappers), reliable, inexpensive, and rain-proof!

they work
easy to set and it kills rats. only downside to this trap is longevity and sensitivity. I have had these wear out where they simply fail to set. Mice will walk all over these. To combat that, I run the traps in narrow wooden boxes. rat traps in front, then mouse trap set behind the rat trap.

Doesn’t trigger with lighter weight rats
The media could not be loaded. UPDATE: I gave it one more star after the initial review. I followed another reviewer’s suggestion of trying to set the trigger such that it’s more sensitive (via trial and error). That seemed to work.Wow…I fed the Norway rat really well tonight. The rat could have been break dancing on the trip mechanism without triggering it. I even placed bait at the very back of the trap, and the rat was laying on the trip mechanism without any effect. I read that you have to adjust it for a hair trigger, so I’ll have to figure that out. Wish I wouldn’t have to spend time figuring out how to make the trigger more sensitive.

THE best rat trap on the market!
By far... without an exception THE best rat traps you can buy. Easy to set. Hands free resets. We caught 7 rats (and unfortunately 1 squirrel) in only 3 nights. I have 12 of these set all around our property.
