I compare the mixer attachments to wire wisks, so thin! Last week one mixer head sheared right off mixing soft butter. So disappointed!! My mom has had another brand hand mixer for 30 years and it still works great, this mixer (at least the attachments) is flimsy and crap. **Q: Where is this made?** A: I am replying to another who stated that in the 60's which is not 100% accurate. It started before (and I recall during the 50's some toys) but as the information below shows ONLY with regard to certain items. I lived in Japan in 1979 and long prior - after WWII their production even with regard to lower priced items had drastically changed. In Tokyo there is an entire section (with blazing neon signs) of electronic stores. I bought a Walkman (before it hit America) and it lasted almost 20 years. Even that has changed as Japan did not realize the "digital age". Now other countries such as S. Korea, S. Vietnam are producing products (note the tag on some of your clothing items - made in S. Vietnam. China even outsources to these countries. Long ago when I worked in NYC's garment industry (80's), at certain stages the product would be shipped to China and x done then it was shipped back to the company to be finished. Inexpensive labor. I check the label's now as I don't agree with the stance of the treatment of it's citizens in China. ------------Even before the war the Japanese had achieved competitive and even superior quality in certain areas. It was just that their priorities were far different from ours in the West. At the outbreak of World War II, there were three levels of quality in Japan. At the low end, prewar consumer exports were wretched. They became the basis for Japan's reputation as a producer of shoddy goods. Instead, the Japanese had harnessed most of their capital and their best managers, engineers and materials to the country's imperial ambitions. Military hardware, the second level of Japanese quality, was quite competitive with that of the Western powers. At the top of the quality, pyramid was the ancient Japanese tradition of fine craftsmanship in handmade goods.----------- **Q: Does this mixer throw food around when set on low?** A: I never noticed that it did. Flour dust, maybe, as I have to wipe the mixer off after putting that in, but usually have it higher than low. It's a wonderful mixer.
