If it gets wet first it won't stick. You can even dry it with a cotton ball first. These are the only things that have helped relieve pain and heal it faster at the same time. I do recommend only using half if it's not real big because you get twice as much uses out of it and that way if it doesn't stick then you can try with the other half. These do not stick to gums and I think the closest to your gums the harder it is because of the amount of saliva that sits in your mouth in that area. But like I said hold it on long enough until you know it's attached and you should be good! Also, if you are constantly messing with it in your mouth it won't last as long because you will wear down the gel on the tablet. If you can get it to work properly it's 100% worth it and don't give up. If it doesn't work the first couple of times keep trying.
