Mother Teresa: In The Name Of God's Poor [DVD] [1997]

What a wonderful film to watch. It will make you think what a truly inspirational person Mother Teresa was and how humble we all should feel in this unjust world we live. Gelerdine Chaplin gives a super performance. A film wanting to se again and again.

Good movie

Brilliant portrayal of Mother Teresa and part of her life work. Inspiring. Geraldine Chaplain at her best.

As a teacher of Year 7 children learning about Mother Teresa, I wanted something more than just reading about her in book. This film is poorly acted in places, the small budget shows in the crowd scenes and there are one or two jarring edits for the TV adverts, but Geraldine Chaplin is convincing throughout and, not being an expert on M Teresa, I felt I had learnt something. What the children seemed to find particularly impressive was the portrayal of people at the lowest extreme of poverty and desperation. I know you can find this out from news and documentaries whenever you like but the fictional treatment and the focus on characters brings the point home well. For me, that is about the extent of this film's qualities. What it most certainly is not is a second Gandhi.

Well acted and an inspiration! We could all take a leaf out of Mother Teresa's book. What a selfless life!

Excellent and very inspirational

I wanted to know a bit more about Mother Teresa and this film was very moving. I also bought the book, 'Come be my light' although I've only dipped into it and have yet to read it properly. If ever a person deserved sainthood she certainly does. What an example of selfless love - humbling and inspiring.

I was looking for DVD's that showed the work of Mother Teresa. I ordered one and it was more of a documentary rather than a story of her work. The age group I wanted to view it would have found it very boring. I've always been interested in Mother Teresa and her work in Calcutta. I ordered this DVD and it was wonderful. I got it to show to a group of 6th -12th grade girls at a retreat this fall. It will help them understand what it means to dedicate your life to helping those less fortunate than themselves. It is a lesson for all of us, regardless of age. I recommend it highly.

Well done and the best of the movies I've seen about Mother Teresa. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I was hoping to hear or feel more of her philosophy in the presentation.

Beautiful movie about an enigma of modern times: Mother Teresa! God loves the poor - both the materially poor and the spiritually poor. For most of us in the west - we have not seen the likes of the poverty that Mother Teresa was exposed to. It's shows us all what a humble - noble woman of God can do for Jesus.
