If the metal is clean, the JAX Iron, Steel, & Nickel Blackener will work quickly. If left for too long the Iron, Steel, & Nickel Blackener will rub off the metal easily. Practice and experience will help you find the right timing for your work. If you are going to dip your metal into JAX Iron, Steel, & Nickel Blackener, you may want to dilute the JAX with water; this will slow the reaction down and allow you to have more control over the finish (there is no magic dilution ratio, a little experimentation will allow you to arrive at the optimum ratio for your work) Always use JAX Products in plastic or glass containers. When you dispose of used products and containers, please do so at an approved waste disposal facility. Never reuse an empty JAX container. Make sure to refer to the Safety Data Sheets for additional information before you begin. Do not mix JAX Products with any other chemicals.

Review: I made a piece of metal furniture and the metal was too shiny. I was looking for a more destressed look. This blackener created a real nice dark patina. worked surprisingly fast. I applied it outside and I could not detect any odor from the product. It worked so well I also used it on a metal sculpture that I was building. Excited to try it on some other projects

## Questions & Answers

**Q: does the product prevent corrosion after it is applied?**
A: No it does not. Typically, you apply a wax and then buff excess away onto the product after the patina. The wax is what helps to prevent corrosion. It also depends on the environment the finish piece will be in. If it is outside or in a humid environment, it may develop corrosion over time.

**Q: is this the same a gun blue?  like hoppes or birchwood casey perma blue?**
A: No. This tends to make the steel look more like old wrought iron or mill scale. At times there is even some slight greenish undertones. This also tends to be a little blotchy and not as consistent of a coloring as the bluing solutions.

**Q: What is a good sealer to use after this ?**
A: I am not sure what you mean by sealer but after I have used JAX solution I wash the stain glass and then use "Mother California Gold original formula Carnauba cleaner wax". This does a good job to protect the solder joints. After that you can us a cloth with a little "Lemon Oil" on it to go over the joints if needed several months later.

**Q: Will this darken a carbon steel knife without ruining it ?**
A: I think it would but not sure over time how well the black finish would hold up to cleaning ,oil etc

I was very satisfied to be able to actually purchase a product that would darken where I want it darkened and blacken where I want it blackened. No fooling around with this product, results are quite quick and compared to weaker solutions that are offered at a higher price excellent results are provided. Time will tell if the effect will remain or provide any durability but from what I've experienced everything looks great.
