Basic look but supremely functional.
Besides the batteries needing to be replaced on a regulare basis this is a great and handy clock!!!!

5 stars as a talking atomic clock, 1 star as an alarm clock
There is a lot to like about this clock. It's super easy to read, with a clear talking voice that, while not the greatest audio quality, isn't annoying like a talking watch I tried once. The second hand stops at midnight and starts up again in the morning automatically to save energy. It has a large labeled button on the top that you can press to hear the time, and two large buttons on the front that allow you to turn the alarm on and off easily and obviously. The alarm can be one of several different options, including a short Vivaldi piece and some pleasant chimes. The atomic clock took an extra day to set itself, but that seems to work. I love atomic clocks.I would rave about this clock except for one fatal flaw: the alarm is completely non-obvious for how to set it. An alarm clock for the elderly needs to be intuitive for all the basic functions. Getting it set up initially was also confusing, but the instructions are good. But you shouldn't have to go to the instructions to figure out how to RESET the ALARM. I can easily see how to hear when the alarm is set for without reading the instructions, but it's just completely not obvious how to set the alarm time. This has already resulted in the alarm going off by accident when not wanted. It's easy to see how to shut it off intuitively when it does ring, but not how to set it in the first place. If it has a snooze function, I haven't read that far yet. Also, the temperature it reports is reliably several degrees higher than the actual temperature in the room.As a talking clock that tells you the time, if you never need the alarm, it works great. It's cute, readable, and easy to use for an elderly person once it's set up. As an alarm clock, it's not intuitive to set the alarm, at least for me, and if you lose the instructions, you'll never be able to set it again. This clock needs just that one tweak to the design and it would be one of my favorite things.
