i love this chopping knife. well worth the price. my only gripe is the retention strap is in the wrong place causing the blade to hit the button, which is unnecessary wear on the edge, also make sliding back into the sheathe a dangerous for your finger. other then that it's beautifully crafted!

The knife arrived heavily oiled, which is good since it will surely rust if not properly cared for. I washed it and applied another thin coat of cooking spray with a napkin. This knife is thick and heavy just like I expected it would be. I used it to chop some chicken thighs as soon as I got it. It's very sharp and cut through everything I threw under it easily. It felt a little odd to cut onion because the blade gets thick very quickly it's almost wedge shaped. I don't mind, that's why I bought this knife, But I did end up switching to a normal blade to cut some of the veggies. The handle is very comfortable. I put my index finger into the metal groove on the base of the blade in order for the knife handle to fit properly in my hand. It feels quite natural. I thoroughly enjoyed unnecessary vigorous chopping while preparing dinner tonight. Mostly I liked the way the knife looks and wanted to have it to admire, it's also satisfying to use. I expect to use it on a regular basis.

Wish I had read the reviews first. Probably try a mustard patina and throw it in with the junk knives. Why did Amazon make this a "choice"? Hmmm!

Description says "High quality genuine leather sheath of cow hide having belt carry loops". There are no belt carry loops on the sheath. Loops that are there are horizontal, you need vertical loops for a belt. Otherwise it is a real nice knife and a great value. Just have to figure out how to attach the sheath to a belt.

This Damascus cleaver is a piece of Hand crafted art. It must be cared for by Hand washing and treating with olive oil after each use. The multi layer steel is not stainless and not meant to be. The Damascus process requires great skill and the cutlery must be treated with care and respect. Wonderful piece!

I appreciate the constant flow of communication I have received from the seller. There are definitely some USPS issues right now and I think we all are aware so that should be taken into consideration right now. This knife will rust after washing it off if not oiled. Doesn't hold a edge well.

Purchased as a gift. Would have been nicer if it came in a box but it does have a nice leather sheath.
