Buy Embroidery Machine Essentials: How to Stabilize, Hoop and Stitch Decorative Designs by Twigg, Jeanine, Goodall, Lindee (ISBN: 9780873419994) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Novice Machine Embroidery - As a total novice to machine embroidery (havent even bought my machine yet) I found this book extremely helpful. There were many things that I had no idea about and it has helped a lot with the preparation of your work. Especially as regards to what backing to use for different types of material. Without the knowledge Ive gained by reading it, I may have made some costly mistakes by not knowing the correct products to use. I'd recommend any total newcomer to purchase this. Review: Excellent - Just getting into this as a new hobby and so far this is the best beginners book I have come across -- a little old fashioned but very clear concise and helpful in all aspects - combine it with Marta Alto's DVD on Machine Embroidery and you have an excellent resource to get started.

The information is layed out really well and has a lot of information in a small book. The projects on the cd, mostly nice, but I wanted information to use with other ideas and this book will help.

I am a new machine embroiderer. I needed a book for learning the basics and for immediate reference. There is so much more to machine embroidery than it would appear on the surface. Needles, threads, stabilizers, hooping; there are just dozens of questions. This book answered most of my questions. (The internet is also a good place for this info, but I like to have a book by my side if possible.) Stabilizers are one very important area. If your stabilizer is wrong for your fabric, the design will not stitch out well. This book has a detailed explanation of each type of stabilizer and what to use it for. How to hoop is explained and shown in a series of step by step drawings. So are different techniques. This book came with a CD-ROM with six designs that are featured in the book. This is a very good book for beginners like myself. I have already used it for reference when working on a project. It was well worth the money.

I purchased this book used at a steep discount because it did not have the CD. It is worth the "new" price even without the CD. I wanted to buy a sewing-embroidery machine, but thought I should know more about it before I spent the money. After reading this book, I knew I HAD to have such a machine, because it can do so much more than I ever thought it could. In addition to opening my eyes about the breadth of embroidery functionality, the instructions for HOW to use the machine so that your efforts are successful are fabulous. Clearly written, concise and simple, these instructions are a superb primer for machine embroiderers. The trouble-shooting advise is fantastic. I especially appreciate that the author sought support from multiple experts, vendors and manufacturers, so the reader receives the broadest possible array of knowledge, and not just machine embroidery from the perspective of a single manufacturer or vendor. In short, you would be wasting money if you spent hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars on a sewing/embroidery machine without spending a few dollars on this book!

I am new to machine embroidery. My embroidery machine was adequate at teaching you the machine, but nothing about how to embroider. This book answered a lot of questions for me. I would give this book 5stars but the CD that is included is so old that my computer would not open it. Too outdated. I do recommend the book for beginner embroiderers though.
