Is the handle plastic, or is it silicone like the rim on the base? I like a good grip if my hands are wet or sloppy.

The handle appears to be the same material as found on the base. It is molded on and has a rubbery feel so it is non-slip.I have given two of these boxed graters as gifts, one to my son in San Francisco and the other to my daughter-in-law in Fresno and they love them.

Does this grater have a prefence on cheese?

It likes a nice, aged parm, and sometimes a sharp cheddar, but doesn’t like stinky cheeses.
