Review: All Things Considered, a Great Battery - Simply put, this is a great battery. I only have two gripes with it, but it has performed well in every 20v application I have put it through. I tried to upload as many photos as I could to give you a better sense of the size including a comparison between the 1.7ah Powerstack and 5ah XR battery it replaces. Even threw in the beefy 15ah XR for good measure. These photos should also give you a better idea as to what it looks like on several tools. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Pros: - More runtime: Besides the FlexVolt batteries, I've noticed a good difference in runtime between the 5ah Powerstack and 5ah XR battery. - More consistent power: There is definitely more consistent power output in this battery (1.7ah included) than all the other XR batteries. This rivals the 12ah Flexvolt FlexVolt in terms of power consistency. That is impressive. It is most noticeable when I'm using tools like the cordless heat gun. - Rubber base: Just like the 1.7ah Powerstack, the 5ah has the grippy rubber base screwed on the bottom. I don't know why DeWALT refuses to do this on other batteries besides the Powerstack line, because it reduces the chance of marring whatever surface you place it on. Pretty nice. - Larger size: Some people are opposed to this, but I see it as a benefit. Because the base of the battery is wide, it makes whatever tool it's mounted too, harder to and less likely to get knocked over. That's a problem the 1.7ah has (in my experience). Last thing I want is to knock my drill over and damage flooring or fall off a ladder. Will the overall increase in size restrict where I can fit my tool? Yes, 100%. However, it is very rare I run into this problem, and if I ever do, I can just slap in the 1.7ah and I'm good to go. Both batteries compliment each other nicely and have their uses. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Cons: - Weight: This battery is HEFTY for a 5ah. Because of how densely the power cells are packed inside, this thing weighs a lot more than I was expecting. I think this in part to how much I got used to the weight of the 1.7ah and figured the 5ah wouldn't be too off. But it is easily 3x heavier than the 1.7ah and 1.5x heavier than the 5ah XR. - Cost: Obviously, this was going to come up. As you can tell by the price (at least at the time of writing this review) these puppies cost some serious bookoo bucks. ~$210 - $220 for 1 and ~$320 - $350 for the 2-pack. That cost is insane for 5ah batteries and is more in the FlexVolt price range. As a comparison, I waited for Black Friday and got 2, 15ah FlexVolt batteries for $500 on ACME Tools. Pretty crazy these can cost almost as much as a 15ah if you're patient. For myself and my business, I can afford it and the time saved due to the power output is worth the longterm cost, so this purchase made sense to me. Time is money. But the group of people this applies to may be a little niche and not worth the cost, especially since you can easily get 2, 5ah XR batteries for $150. At the end of the day, to each their own, what makes sense to you, may not make sense to others. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Would I recommend this battery? To very few people. Is it a great battery? Absolutely.
Review: Research recomended this battery as one of the best for Dewalt tools. - My husband and I both use a lot of indoor and outdoor tools and have found that Dewalt tools are reliable. I recently bought a Dewalt pole saw, and decided to buy a couple of extra batteries so that work I was doing was not halted for lack of a functioning battery. In my research, I found that this battery model was highly rated. I learned that a higher AH rating means the battery can power devices for a longer time before needing a recharge which means less recharging. My husband has a couple of Dewalt batteries for his tools that he offered to share, but the AH rating is much lower on his batteries. I chose to get my own batteries for my tools. Like most products you buy, you need to do the research. A good deal is not always the best deal. I am happy with these batteries for the longer time to be used, and would recommend them. I hope this review was helpful for you.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the REAL Ah rating and/or Wh rating? I.e., printed on the battery: 20v 5Ah 100Wh. Since it runs at 18v, it is either 5Ah OR 100Wh, not both.**
A: The numbers which you quote (the numbers written on the battery) are rounded for the sake of simplicity. First, this battery has max voltage of around 20 volts (when fully charged and without the load). Its voltage changes as it discharges, it may change depending on the power drawn from the battery, and can even drop below 18 volts. Neither 5 AH nor 100 WH is correct because these are theoretical parameters for a certain discharge rate and a certain end state (you probably will not run your battery to a complete discharge, in real life). Both numbers are a ballpark estimate for the capacity, some kind of a guidance. You are right, at 5 AH at 18 volts does not add up to 100 WH. It add up to 90 WH. Oh well, a lot of marking is going on here. I suspect, 90 WH would be more correct, but why would the manufacturer state a lower number?

**Q: Do these have the fule gage led lights system?**
A: Yes they do.Heavier than the smaller batteries.Good for the high draw tools but even with these, something like a sawzall will run them down in 20 minutes.

**Q: Can a frozen li-ion battery be charged? can a li-ion battery be charged if it is warm or hot?**
A: I have charged these batteries in freezing weather 25-32 degrees as well as today when it was 105. Keep them out of the sun while charging in summer or they will get too hot and fail to charge correctly.

**Q: What bulbs go with a DCL050 20volt light?**
A: The DCL050 bulbs are not replaceable.
