This was Spyderco's attempt to meet the TSA's standards that never came to pass, but does meet many of the standards of countries and cities around the world who restrict what honest, law abiding citizens can carry as a pocket knife for everyday utility (of course, those intent on violence don't care). Yet, there it is and this is a result - as are the more robust UKPK, the excellent Pingo (no longer available), the Squeak, and many other SlipIt (non-locking) models from Spyderco. Spyderco makes very well engineered products and this is no exception. The blade is thick and 90 degrees at the spine (you can strike (scrape) a ferrocerium rod with it very well), has a modified sheepsfoot shape (slight belly, spine has an interesting curve - looks like a bird's head in a way), and is made from N690Co steel (which is very stainless and retains its edge very well) made in Maniago, Italy. Very sharp, too. Knife has "dimples" on either side at the front of the blade to open the blade, and a small "Spydie hole" further along the blade just because it's a Spyderco. It also has a lanyard hole. Using a lanyard and bead to "extend" the handle length, the Roadie can actually be manipulated to open with one hand (with lanyard between fingers, pinch and lift the blade at the "dimples", then push at the forefinger index choil al the base of the blade to fully open it). In my opinion the Roadie makes an excellent, non-threatening (nicely small and not-pointy), light weight, very useful, 5th pocket sized penknife. And in orange with its square spine, it makes a good backpacking buddy, even for ultralight through hikers. Much stronger and "field useful" than a SAK Classic (which definitely deserves to be in any First Aid Kit) when teamed with a small Ferrocerium rod for fire starting. The Roadie blade is definitely up to making shavings and curls to ignite if a fire is needed, and certainly cutting cordage, etc., and opening packets of food.

To start off I am a daily knife carrier, I think its one of the essentials that every man should have on them at all times. I have many, many, many knives. Most are overkill for EDC. what you really want is a easy to carry, sharp tool that is non-threatening. The Roadie does just that. I have long been a fan of wharncliffe blades, but have had a hard time finding that Goldilock knife, the one that's just right. I have found that a fairly straight edged blade does everything I want in an EDC knife, I don't need a lot of belly to my blade. The sheepsfoot blade of the Roadie is just right, its a small, disappear in your pocket size. The finger choil lines up the grio perfectly and the jimping on the back of the blade is wonderful. I an very happy to have found this knife, it will possibly be final EDC pocket knife.

I use this as a nightstand knife. Just a small tool to have handy in case I need to cut something. Very small, very light, very compact. Not meant for heavy duty. It has worked fine for the few tasks I have used it for. Spyderco quality in a compact package.

This handy little pocket knife is a slip joint from Spyderco, one of the premier knife manufacturers in the world. It’s made in Italy and was designed to be TSA compliant back when the Federal Government was considering giving permission to airline passengers to carry a small knife after 911. That restriction was never lifted but the Spyderco Roadie was made anyway and I’m glad they did! It’s an awesome piece of kit that won’t scare office workers, won’t violate knife laws that restrict locking blades or restrict blades over 2” in length. It’s pretty much legal everywhere. The spring is very strong and you really have to try hard to snap it closed. It’s made so that when snapping it shut, the blade stops halfway to allow your fingers to get out of the way. The build quality is top shelf. High end materials and precise tolerances. Very much worth the money

It’s the size and weight advertised, it’s sharp, centered, there is no blade play, fit and finish are fine, opener and overall design is comfortable and unique. Slap on a small piece of paracord, tie a knot and you’ve got good pinkie purchase. A small gem that your gal will probably run off with..😄
