Excellent image and features, great projector
Bought this projector to upgrade my broken Acer SVGA projector, I was instantly blown away by its performance. Performs very well with all HDMI sources (PS3 and Philips DVP 5980) and my AV receiver (Onkyo TX SR308), nice bright and detailed image and movies look brilliant on this WXGA format, I have it set up as a 115" screen and it looks fantastic. Would definately recommend to anyone looking for the cheapest option into HD projection. The only draw back is that the preset image settings arent the greatest, i found i had to adjust the sharpness quite a bit as it made the images look too grainy so i would recommend that you adjust them correctly so you get the best out of this projector. Very easy to do if you have a quick look on Google for some instructions. Another side note is that this projector is 16:10 not 16:9 and supports up to 1080p so you will get some border although it is hardly visible. This is not a fault it is just the format of this projector. Well worth the money and super fast delivery

Excellent value
Quite surprised at the quality as this was the cheapest HD proj I could find. I would have thought a high range, low-res projector would give a better picture than a low-range, high resolution projector. This one is actually really good. Tried only 2D over HDMI connection *Sound*: Not used, would not expect much from it anyway. *Contrast*: good, as expected for the specs *Brightness*: good, not used in broad daylight obviously *High res*: excellent image quality. You really need HD as the projected picture is quite big even if the wall/screen is only 2,5m away. *Noise*: not a problem *Rainbow effect*: indeed noticeable on some types of images, e.g. when the video contains white flashing dots (e.g. something glistening), or something white that rotates. Bearable. There's not much you can do about that anyway unless you want to invest in an LED. It's less distracting if you are right in front of the picture and not moving your head. *Peripherals*: it comes with a remote & 2 power cords (UK + mainland) & 1 "PC screen to RGB" adaptor (what do you call those?). Buy your own HDMI cable and 2x AAA batteries for the remote. *Settings*: you can show the picture normally, flipped (proj behind screen), or upside down (proj atatched to ceiling), and there are many preset modes (film, presentation, etc). you can "skew" the picture vertically (trapeze) in case you set the projector higher or lower than the screen. You CANNOT skew the picture horizontally, so the projector has to be in front of the screen (or wall), not to the side. You CANNOT zoom out very much, so if you haven't got much space for a large projected image, like me, you'll end up having to set the projector quite close to the wall, i.e. in front of the couch rather than behind. And since you can't skew laterally... It gets in the way. Also renders the remote useless (since you're behind the captor). E.g. Projecting only 2,5m away, fully zoomed OUT, I get a minimum picture size of ~80cm in HEIGHT... Really quite massive... I guess that makes the diagonal ~160cm, over 60 inches... Very enjoyable :) Overall I really enjoy the picture quality and I am delighted with the purchase. I think its great value for money.

A good projector, but not the best for watching movies on
I bought this projector with the intention of turning my living room into a little home cinema. And while the projector is good for the price (it is small, relatively quiet, has lots of connection options), it is not the best for movies. When watching dark scenes it is difficult to distinguish much on the screen and the colour isnt great unfortuntately. Also I do tend to see the rainbow affect (a slight flicker of green flashing across the screen) from time to time. However if you are looking to use it to watch films occasionally and are not a hardcore film fan then this should suffice. Although be warned, it doesnt come with a VGA cable to connect to your laptop, you need to purchase this separately.

Poor reliability.
The colour wheel went after 1200 hours causing colour break up. A similar thing happened to a previous Optoma just out of guarantee. It cost over £200 to be fixed. The customer service department didn't seem to care too much about customer satisfaction. I don't tend to leave negative reviews. I can't remember doing so for years. Thankfully there are now alternatives for cheap HD projectors.

DMD chip problem
I would be very wary of buying a device with the Optomo brand. I bought an Optomo HD600X about 2 years ago. It's been fine apart from about 3 months ago I noticed a few white dots on the image. This has worsened to the point where the screen resembles noise; there are so many white and black dots. The problem is the DMD processor, it is faulty and needs to be replaced. This appears to be a common fault with Optoma projectors. There appears to be no customer support from Amazon so I am in the process of ordering and then fitting a new processor. The processor costs about £100 and I will fit it myself. Be aware that your projector may not be fit for use within 2 years, which doesn't appear to be a very good deal.

Absolutely brilliant for the money
Well built. Easy to set up. Gives a great picture. It is a little noisy but most of the time you don't notice it. Mine is on a shelf right behind my head and its just about ok. I do hear it during the quiet parts of movies but you soon tune it out. The picture is absolutely fabulous with DVDs and Blu-ray. I have mine set up to give a 110 inch diagonal screen which I watch from 3.7m away. The projector is 4.2m away behind my head. DVD is very watch-able and any issues with the picture here is purely down to the fact that DVDs don't have enough detail to blow up to 110 inch without some flaws, but they still give a good experience. But when projecting a Blu-ray, wow the picture is flawless. I first watched the Blu-ray of Avatar and it was fantastic. I don't see how you could get a better picture it was so detailed. Even though it is bright the blacks are much better when the lights are off and the room is dark. I only project mine onto a white wall and the picture is fine. I was going to buy a screen but I dont think it is required now. The built in speaker isn't much cop, but I expected this. I plugged in a 2.1 Onkyo HTX-22HDX sound system (highly recommended) and it really completes the cinema experience. The optical Zoom doesn't give much flexibility but there are many electronic options to zoom and shift the picture up and down so you wall easily be able to make it fit your space.

Good value projector
This review after having the projector for about three weeks. 2D use only, at home, for films from DVD, Bluray and Lovefilm online. Basically it is a very nice piece of kit. Good, bright, high contrast images with no visible "rainbow effect" from the DLP system. Straightforward to set up. Only drawback I've found is that is is just a bit noisy. I'm rather sensitive to noise though - the rest of the family say it's fine by them, and I must confess once I'm engrossed in the film or whatever, I stop noticing it! I might get round to making an enclosure for it sometime, but I don't feel that's a pressing need. Recommended if you're looking for a good projector at what is a bargain price.

Better than any TV!
To begin with, I was toying with the idea of getting a new TV and had been looking at 50" models in the price range of about £600. I then watched a video on Youtube of a guy demonstrating his home cinema setup - he was watching TV and films on a massive 100" screen by way of a HD projector. This got me thinking. After extensive research on the subject, I decided not to get a new TV, and instead I went for the Optoma 600X-LV projector, priced on here at £377. I can safely say this is one of the best decisions I have ever made. This is "only" a 720p projector, but to be quite honest I find it very difficult to see any noticeable difference between 720p and 1080p content. My main reason for having the projector is to watch TV and films - for anything else I'll be using my 1080p monitor. Setting it up was a breeze, and the image quality is fantastic (I'm just projecting onto a white, blackout roller-blind - I understand that with a proper projector screen the image quality would be better still). In my particular setup, the projector is throwing a diagonal image of about 100" from a distance of about 3.5 metres (the zoom function gives you about 12" of adjustment). Obviously for best results you need to use the unit in as dark an environment as possible - however it copes very well with ambient light and is in no way unusable during the daytime. This is very handy at the moment as I'm enjoying watching Euro 2012 games on the big screen when it's still light outside! In conclusion - this is a great product that I cannot recommend highly enough. Watching Star Wars on a massive screen in the comfort of my own home last night was a dream come true. If you're in the market for a high-quality projector that won't break the bank - look no further.
