The Vogue® Knitting Stitchionary™ Volume Two: Cables: The Ultimate Stitch Dictionary from the Editors of Vogue® Knitting Magazine (Vogue Knitting Stitchionary Series) [Vogue Knitting magazine] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Vogue® Knitting Stitchionary™ Volume Two: Cables: The Ultimate Stitch Dictionary from the Editors of Vogue® Knitting Magazine (Vogue Knitting Stitchionary Series) Review: Excellent reference - Valuable compendium. Knitter can find easy single cable stitches, overall patterns, and mixed ones. The latter are especially interesting. For each pattern is stitches, find an explanation of abbreviations with how-to's, written, and charted explanations. A brief index at the last two pages explains in more detail. To use, either take one and make a sample or go right to a project. For amore advanced purpose, use knitters' chart paper and combine a few patterns. There's plenty of material provided already before getting,to that step. A home designer can use swatching to work into an existing pattern. I recommend this book before jumping into more extensive and difficult Japanese pattern books. That's because, unless, trained from an early age or spending time on mastery, utilizing charts alone and abstruse technique abbreviations, is intense. Not that it can't be done, but incrementally building skills and knowledge, is a sound learning technique. The hat pictured was developed from chart on p. 165. That's my first project from this book. I could use single cabels for a hat. However, then I'd need to add other design elements, create a chart, do more math, and work harder. Cables draw in the fabric, so remember to swatch. I'm pleased with the information in the book and am anxious to use it to create another accessory. Review: Perfect Stitch Dictionary! - I'm an avid knitter and love being challenged and have recently begun making my own original patterns and this book is a godsend. It is exactly as the title says. It's a dictionary of stitches (cable stitches to be precise). A mindblowing collection of cable patterns all in one place. I had been searching for a guide like this. It's so nice to have everything in one book. And it's so simple to use. Each cable pattern has a name, a color photo of the finished product, and the pattern written both in long hand and chart form. So whichever method of pattern reading you prefer this book has you covered. It just lists the cable pattern so you don't have to dig through complicated sweater patterns just to pick out the section of the cable you're trying to replicate. And unlike other stitch glossaries the pictures are in color. It has a wide variety of basic cables and intricate woven/braided cables so there really is something in here for everyone. I wish I had found this book sooner! Vogue is a trusted pattern publisher and so far I haven't found any mistakes. I will definitely consider buying the other books in this series. This is a must have for the knitter in your family.

Perfect Stitch Dictionary!
I'm an avid knitter and love being challenged and have recently begun making my own original patterns and this book is a godsend. It is exactly as the title says. Fantastic book 2!
Vogue continues along the great tradition of providing the information one needs, and desires. Each picture is very well photographed, and detailed. The stitches show up very clearly enabling the reader to see what she wants. The stitch discription is very clear with all the information one would need to accomplish the stitch he or she wants. Wonderful presentation, awesome instructions, a book to add to any knitters library!

Not comprehensive, but useful
I know this series inspires strong reactions in people; definitely a "love it" or "hate it" kind of thing. My expectations for Volume Two: Cables was realistic, I think. I've had Vogue Knitting forever, and enjoy the swatches and clear photos, but I know not to expect finesse or depth. This volume has lots of easy-but-cool stitch patterns, and that's about it. I agree with other reviewers that the lack of a real index with thumbnails of each stitch is a real handicap. I shouldn't have to employ tons of labeled post-its to find my favorite stitches. The charts, unfortunately, are gray-on-gray affairs that could be a lot bigger. There is plenty of room on the oversized pages to allow for many of the charts to have been at least 50% bigger than they are. However, the photos themselves are generously-sized and very clear. Great eye-candy and a very attractive selection of cables. The price here at Amazon is so good that I bought it despite the limitations. PUBLISHERS: If you ever check out the reviews here on Amazon (and you should), you'll find a huge chorus of needlecrafters begging for SPIRAL-BOUND versions of your books. If I'm teetering on the edge of deciding whether to lay down another $20-$40 on a knitting book, a spiral or turtle-binding will seal the deal.

Good book, beautiful copy.
One of my favorite stitchionary books. Again, well photographed patterns make it easy to choose which you'd like to use. The book arrived in pristine condition. You'd never know it was used!

I haven't gone throug all the book, just fliped some pages, but from what I saw, the book is very good. First, it's not to expensive as it is a hardcover. Second the book is very well structured as it beggins with the simple knits and progresses to the more difficult ones and Third the instructions are very clear and all the designs have a sample, so you can see the final work. The only bad thing I can remember, is that sometimes they show some ideas, like a sweater or vest, but they don't tell you how it is made. I strongly recomend the book for beginners and advanced knitters.

For anyone who loves knitting cable stitches & who wants to experiment with their own designs, this is a great book. A good variety of cable stitches with difficulty guidance. I have a number of other good stitch dictionaries but this one contains cable stitches not found in other books. Worth buying.
