All of these are able to be calibrated. Put in a cup of ice and set the dial to 33Β°. **Q: What country is this made in?** A: The company Supco is located in Bronx, NY at Supco.com, had it awhile, still works well if that helps. **Q: can this be calibrated by nut on back for rotating dial?** A: I believe so. There is a nut on the back, but I haven't had to recalibrate mine yet. **Q: What is the diameter of the stem? I tested its accuracy with a tool gauge calibrated thermometer and it was spot on, I very happy about that. I like the size of the dial make my old eyes happy too. I like analog gauges as long as they are accurate, digital thermometers may be more accurate over all however my OCD can't stand that flipping back and forth on the last 10th digit. I like its simple design with no wires to fuss with, just pull it out and put it in the vent that's it. I like the durability and that it has no batteries.
