When I read her books I am always struck by the power of her narrative voice and storytelling because she is engaging histories that are difficult to research. But she does and beautifully. She is one of a handful of scholars I will read without knowing a thing about a new book because I know it will be intriguing and quirky in the best way and fascinating.
