Quick to Install // Easy to Use // Secure
This is my first purchase of a bicycle rack. We have a five member family so wanted the option to bring all of our bikes with us on trips. We just used it for our first trip to the beach about 5 hours away. It was easy to install, great quality, and very easy to secure the bikes. For those needing a larger bike rack, this is a really wonderful solution for a very reasonable price. The keyed locking hitch mechanism also makes it theft proof which is even nicer when using around the city where we live. It has a really nice no wobble hitch tightening mechanism that keeps it very secure when in transit. Also comes with a strap you can thread through all of the bikes to keep bike parts from moving while in transit. If you care about your bikes getting scrapes or rubbing while driving, I would suggest placing rags or cloth of some type between the parts of the bikes that touch before securing them with the included strap.

Very good value for strong unit
This is a very strongly built carrier. Was almost half the price of a similar Yakima unit my son-in law just bought and I think it is more strongly built and easier to use. The Yakima had a bunch of separate clamp ties that held the bikes in place that would easily be lost and were a pain to use. The Yakima did have an integral locking cable to lock the bikes on the unit, but since we already have individual locks and cables for the bikes that was not much of a feature. The Allen Sport had a full 2" square frame that locked into the hitch while the Yakima had a 1 1/4" frame that fit into an adapter to make it 2". OK but I'll take the beefier construction. Did like the locking clamp that takes any play out of the hitch connection as well as locking carrier into the hitch. The tilt feature worked easily even with 3 bikes loaded on it and I wouldn't be able to get into the back of my CRV without it. All in all I think this was a better carrier than the Yakima, and getting the tilting and locking features was well worth the few $ it cost over Allen Sports budget models.

Amazing rack for the price!
We have been looking for a bike rack/ski rack combo that can hold 5 bikes/5 pairs of skis. The Thule and Yakima brands are really expensive. Then I found this one. It installed really easily, and I (5'6" woman) was able to insert it and take it out by myself. It's really easy to lower and raise in order to access the trunk. Truth be told we haven't put bikes on it yet, but we actually used it to carry our skis. I'm waiting on the Thule ski attachment, but in the meantime we just laid the skis horizontally and strapped them down with the bike straps. Worked like a charm for a 3 hour drive. This is a really great product.

Great generally -- not so great for bikes without a horizontal bar at the top of the frame
Very easy to attach and remove from your trailer hitch. Locking mechanism is great and easy to use. We had another (Yakima) rack that was hard to remove, so we just left it on all the time, and it got really gritty and dirty and rusty, and eventually impossible to remove. This was about half the price too. Downside is that this style of rack is hard to use with bikes that do not have a horizontal bar across the top of the frame. We manage to get four bikes on this "5-bike" rack, but it's hard to do. Five bikes would probably be impossible, at least with our bikes. But we love everything else about the rack.

1300 miles offroading, kicked butt
1300 miles of road tripping and offroading, kicked butt. I almost never write reviews, came back just to say thanks to this Allen Brand for making this relatively cheap priced, but well made 👌 5 bike rack. Bought the deluxe or whatever for $190 cause it can fold down(go slowly) WITH 5 bikes loaded if you need to. And the straps are rubber with 3 points of contact, instead of the backpack strap material Went off road through Big Bend National Park, handled hella bouncy conditions no effs given! Can't speak on the cheaper versions of this 5 bike rack, but 20 hours of driving with 5 bikes and I'm so happy to have it. Also, the hitch lock mechanism is sick and basically prevents ALL hitch mount jiggling. 5 stars

Great, one small criticism
Sturdy and easy to install. It’s on the heavier side but I like that. Bikes don’t move even on bumpy side streets. One little criticism: Where the upright boom swivels and clicks into the fixed 90 degree tubing, there’s an 1/8th of an inch gap when it’s locked in that makes it feel a little loose. It comes with a little rubber/plaster bumper that’s supposed to make it tighter but it’s too small. It still has room to shifts it’s very secure and has zero effect on the security of the bikes, it just feels loose. No big deal. Great bike rack besides that.

We are a family of 5, ages from low teens and up. We took a 2 week trip from Southern Ontario to the East Coast (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI) stopping only for a night at a time. This was the only trailer hitch bike rack I could find that didn’t have a review where the pipes failed. I was very concerned about being days from home and our bikes dropping onto the ground. Well, I no longer have that concern! I have seen a few people say they couldn’t fit 5 bikes on this rack, to them I say “You just didn’t try hard enough.” We were able to get 5 very different adult bikes on and off many times throughout our trip. Here are the my tips. You are going to need top bars for some styles of bikes. 3 out of 5 of my bikes needed a top bar. You can buy these relatively cheap. If you care about your bikes not getting scratched up, I recommend getting tire straps to stop them from moving as well as something to protect the various points the bikes may touch. I went with cheap hardware store pipe wrap and some dollar store zip ties. I tried to attach these foam tubes in ways that the bike could still be used without having to take them off although sometimes that is unavoidable. That’s why I use cheap zip ties! You don’t feel bad cutting one! Once you have what you need to rack up your bikes, you need to find a pattern that works. Seat height and pedal placement is a big deal. Also, it seems to work the best to alternate the direction of the bikes (seat, bars, seat, bars, seat). As for the mount itself. It is sturdy. I love the locking hitch mount that fits multiple size hitches. It allows you to really snug it up. And when it’s locked, it won’t let you loosen it. It just spins in place. Also, the tilt feature was nice to get that first bike on and off. I don’t think I would tilt it while fully loaded however because of the weight. We drove through mountains, hills, on dirt roads and even hit the ground a few times because of dips in the road surface but everything was fine in the end. It’s durable and very well built! I couldn’t recommend this bike mount enough!

Well made, not fancy as other rack companies but does job fine. Very easy to assemble less than 10min just watch video on Allen sport site. Only need 2 simple tool Easy to install week-end and easy remove working day. No tool needed Compatible 2 in receiver Finally 5 bike rack cheaper than 4 bike for same model. As described for Key Features on site : Quick install locking hitch insert Quick fold carry arms Rapid tilt away main mast No wobble hitch installation But one downside, not made for 5 adult bike. Max 4 adult bike and 1 kid. But still ok

This is a solid product, well built, intuitive, seemingly durable, and easy to use. It's as good as any Thule or Yakima, but half the price. It is supposed to fit five bikes, but the slot nearest the vehicle will only fit a road bike (which has narrower handlebars than a mountain bike); I think this is normal and common to all bike racks. Would definitely recommend to a friend and am happy with the purchase. (Original review: 5 stars) REVISED REVIEW: All of the above holds, with two exceptions. First, this is not really a rack that will hold five bikes without wrecking your paint. The brackets to hold the first bike closest to the car are almost unusable. Second, over the space of two summers (May to November) the rack has rusted at the welds. My guess is that it will not have a lifespan greater than five or so years -- once the rust gets worse, I would not trust its integrity and safety. I bought this Allen rack because it was the only one I could find during the great bicycle rush of 2020, although I now wish I had bought a Yakima or Thule.

I got the Allen Premier locking for 5 bikes because it requires no tools at all to attach to the hitch, fold the rack down when not in use, or fold away if you have to open the trunk. It has a built in lock with keys so a hitch pin isn’t required, the rubber securing straps are good quality, and it literally takes only seconds to install or make any changes. The only thing I don’t like is that the bikes shake a little when going over pot holes or train tracks so I try to slow down for them. Not sure if other racks also shake a bit since this is my first hitch mount. I've also started securing the bikes with additional bungee cords, or the included securing strap, which has helped. I've used it about 10 times in the past 14 months and have had no issues carrying 3 large mountain bikes or 4 smaller mountain bikes. Never tried 5 bikes but it doesn't have any issues loading bikes on all 5 of the different spots, which are equally spaced out (see images). Just need to place the smallest bike closest to the front if you're going to carry 5 bikes as large handle bars or pedals might touch the car. Also, if you're going in a long trip with 5 bikes you might want to lighten the load as much as possible by removing seat posts or front wheels if there's space to keep them inside. Good quality and all the time saving features needed in a rack. It's the best. Get it. Update: I loaded it up with 5 full-size (27.5”) mountain bikes on 4 trips in the past month. Each trip involved about an hour of driving. Bikes were secured with two extra rubber straps and they didn’t shake. The straps (not included) makes a big difference as they keep all the bikes secure.

I have used the bike rack for a few months now. This is certainly a good option, no frills, lower cost bike rack. I wouldn't use it to haul 5 bikes (very often) and the fifth bike spot is actually between the vehicle and the rack mast which is a little misleading. The 5th spot is good for smaller bikes only. 2 more bikes easily fit the other 4 spots making this carrier perfect for 3 bikes with no bike contact at all! If you purchase this rack ensure you have a strap to secure each front tire and a separate strap to pull the bottom bracket of the bike down to a point on the hitch. With the 4 or 5 bike carrier you can easily transport 2 bikes with zero chance of contact. Two relatively expensive bikes were carried on this rack without issue multiple times. If you have "department store" bikes and want to load up 4 to 5 bikes with it can be done but bike contact will likely occur. If you don't need all the bells and whistles buy this rack and save some money. I don't understand all the negative attention hanging racks get if you need it to transport inexpensive bikes for the family or size up significantly to transport specialty bike store bikes without chance of contact. With only one or maybe two bikes loaded you can safely tilt the mast away to access your hatch but I wouldn't try this with a full load or with extremely heavy bikes. Allen Sports seemed to take the best features offered from other brands and added them to thier sensible bike rack at a significantly lower price. This review does not apply to bikes with carbon fiber frames.
