The touchscreen is not responsive in all activities and the alarm does not sound
This toy does have features which could cater to a broad range of young children. I'd say that 3 - 6 years old would be the safest bet. The younger ones will be keen to explore, the older ones will be able to do things with it and will have just enough patience to persevere with the issues which will arise. First of all, it is wonderful that an SD card is included. The touchscreen proved to be laggy in the extreme, and would become frustrating for an adult within minutes. Oddly, the most reactive was the calculator. Other features were hit or miss, with most having to be pressed repeatedly before a response was obtained. There is a fair selection of games which would make the average 5-year old curious and keep them engaged. But the jigsaws had a weird glitch. Sometimes, moving a tile would leave a black space instead of what was moved (it would just disappear), and all the while the clock would be counting while it was impossible to complete the puzzle due to the missing one or two pieces which just appeared to have vanished into thin air. This would frustrate the average young child, and the adult who would be unable to find an explanation. Some of the more complicated games would have been intriguing for older children had they worked. There was one really cool game which older children (7, 8, 9) would have appreciated, except despite there being 20 segments from which to choose, it was impossible to actually select a random segment, you had to proceed in numerical order, and could not select the next segment until it had been solved. Most children would give up in frustration. There are no instructions for any of the games, which would appeal to some children, and turn off others. The cameras are okay. Not very sharp, which again, would only appeal to very young children. Despite setting several alarm times, not one of them went off, so we could not use it as planned, as a cool alarm clock. It is really cute, lightweight and has enough features to grab the attention of young ones, but the glitches will lose their attention and make them less likely to want to return to it. Among our group of friends, 2 year-olds were fascinated by it (the swiping works well). 3 year-olds wanted to explore everything, but most things were too complicated, except for the photography. The other ages played out exactly as above. There really is something for everyone, but knowing our children, it would be hard to spend over ยฃ30 for a toy which they would put aside, not due to lack of curiosity, but in frustration.
