Heres the bold and sweeping epic adventure thats guaranteed to thrill action seekers of all ages. Jason Scott Lee ("Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story")stars as Mowgli, a boy raised by wild animals in the jungles of India. Longing to enter mans world, Mowgli is aided by Kitty, the beautiful daughter of British official Major Brydon (Sam Neill "Jurassic Park"). Mowgli soon faces a ruthless soldier who wants both Kittys hand in marriage and a hand on mythical treasures that only Mowgli can find. Based on Rudyard Kiplings immortal tale, "THE JUNGLE BOOK" is a commanding crowd-pleaser destined to be among this years greatest action adventures!

A criminally overlooked film that exhibits beautifully masterful live-action storytelling
To have a cast like this immersed in live-action with wonderful animals at exquisite locations is truly wonderful to behold. Each and every performance in this film stayed with me since I first saw it as a child in the 90's and as my VHS tape broke years back, I made a promise to reclaim ownership of it on DVD. Revisiting it was wonderful. It was very hard to find a working DVD copy of this as other sellers sent cracked discs and it was virtually impossible to order through stores. Finally I have a copy in great condition. The fact it was so difficult to find was very disappointing on a personal level seeing as how it is a wonderful piece of cinema and yet we have such ridiculously weak content thrown at us at every waking second. Quality films like this need to be cherished. The only cautionary disclaimer I would give is that I would not advise this film for children under 8 for sure! The PG rating is a little light for the realistic nature of some of its scenes and sequences.I recall as a child feeling somewhat overpowered by one or two scenes that were incredibly gripping but may have been too convincing for my age at the time. This is no fault of the filmmakers. Merely the censor. And it never dissuaded me from longing to see it after all this time! The film earned a very special place in my heart for each of these actors. I have followed their careers since childhood because of it!100% recommend, with the age disclaimer in mind!

A classic and a great favourite of mine
A classic and a great favourite of mine, I was ecstatic to find a DVD of The Jungle Book, which is quite rare on ebay and next to impossible to find in dvd stores or online dvd stores. If you are looking for an accurate depiction of the novel, don't bother here. This is a fantastic reimagining of the story, and Jason Scott Lee is perfect as an adult Mowgli. John Cleese is classic comedy relief, Sam Neil is gruff, and who can not enjoy Cary Ewes (Princess Bride, Men in Tights) as the incredibly suave, disgustingly evil, deliciously handsome villain of the tale?! The heroin is intelligent and beautiful, and although she requires being rescued once or twice, is not a passive or insipid damsel in distress. The story flow is perfect, the graphics quite good for the early-mid 90s except for one or two moments, I don't think they could really do much better.

Movie magic
Been looking for this for a long time. A little expensive but worth it after so long looking for it. Case was slightly damaged but overall I’m happy to have it.

A 'new' addition to the Jungle Book world
In some ways a cross between Tarzan and Pygmalian, this retelling of Mowgli's story is an entertaining addition to anyone's collection. The story line of the lost child returning to the fold is well known but the performances of the actors make it a joy. John Clees as the teacher is brilliant and Cary Elwes makes a convincing upper class villain.I have this on VHS and am delighted to be able to replace it with the DVD to make extra room on the shelves for more.

Jungle book in its own author's context
Jungle book in its own author's contextThis version of Kipling's text takes us closer to the situation of the time it was written; Colonial India. The greed and arrogance of the British is aptly portrayed, and some of the actors add to the irony of «The White Mans Burden». The love story is quite convincing, and the film aims and succeeds in looking beyond the folly of its own time. I can recommend this film.MaHanShi

Loved it back in 1995, love it now!
Loved it back in 1995, love it now! Great film for the family, it has a load of funny moments for the kids :) The CGI has aged a bit, particularly the snake. Great performances from Jason Scott Lee, Sam Neill and John Cleese!
