The brand that has become a legend
All of my hand-held radios were stolen out of my car's trunk. This package seemed pretty complete with a programming cable and hand mic. It uses USB-C for charging and programming. The package did not include a charging stand but did come with a power supply and a type "C" USB cable. Right away I wanted to program it. With the cable plugged into the radio and the computer, I found the USB to Serial device in Device Manager. I then started CHIRP which came with disappointment. The radio type "UV-22" did not appear in the list of supported radios. I tried several radio types with no luck. None would communicate with the radio. This is what happens when you buy the newest models. Support lags. My next move was to go to the Baofang website. I didn't find the radio type in the supported models so I went with a program that seemed comprehensive. After downloading, installing, and starting I was pleased to find that the program had no trouble finding and reading the radio. From there - programming in the 25 or so repeaters I needed was a breeze. The CPS was extremely easy to use and writing to the radio went without a hitch. The radio's color display is very modern. Two frequencies are shown and switching between them just requires a quick push of the red button. All in all, this is a bargain. Everything you need in one box and one purchase. If you're in the market for a new analog-only hand-held, you can't besat this package for the money.

Disappointed in seller.
First radio worked well for a day, then the radio started squealing on 70cm transmit. I returned it to Amazon and asked for a replacement. The replacement arrived and the box had the radio body and a microphone, no battery , no antenna , no charger , no data cable. I requested a refund from Amazon, and really disappointed with this sellers lack of quality control.photo of empty replacement box

Nice radio very compact in size.
I cannot transmit because I am unlicensed but I do have a antenna on my car and this ones going in the car. Programming is now supported by chirp. I had extreem difficulty downloading from the radio. I went to the device mananage and the prolific driver was failing to load and had a yellow ! in the device mananger. After another download and a fresh install plus a restart of my computer I was able to download from the radio. I have all the areas around me from radio refereence and had to copy them in the download and upload to the radio. The repeaters are fun to listen to, I live near Milwaukee, Wisconsin and poeple are broadcasting from way upnorth in Wisconsin using the repeaters. I guess one day maybe I will get licensed and start a new hobby.

Functions excelent at a great value
Great dollar value.. Easy to operate and use, it is no secret but it is the key to all radios, learn to read menu's. Most radios function the same and have the same settings but are in a different order. This radio feels solid and is of a good size. Comes with a lot of accessories. Has great audio both ways and can be loud. The only thing I would add is a display of the frequency when the backlight is off. I purchased three... Red Buffalo

UV-22 is a great first radio! It's probably never gonna transmit ever! Just listen!
I wanted to learn Chirp, and didn't want a basic 5r! So Im starting with the 22! This kit has it all, programmer, ear piece, mic, both Ant... Since then! I've learned the only radios worth transmitting in the US are the GT-5R! So, I also got a pair of those for less than 50$ with base chargers, programmer, both Ant, mics, ear pieces! But I wanted a decent all band just to listen too! And this hit the bill on the cheap with the large color screen, in case I want to give it to me father and he can still read it!

Looks / works good but issues
The radio looks good and the display / menu structure is clear to understand. The audio is loud when turned up but clear and not distorted. It does come with the optional gain / longer antenna so you don't have to go out ad purchase it. Issues: 1.) The sticker inside the radio says it is dual band but it is actually a tri band radio. 2.) The description of what is included mentions a charger base. That was not in the box and the picture of accessories do not show it either. 3.) The wall adapter that was in the box has the UK plug but they are selling it in the US market with a US version of the radio. At least the battery can be charged by USB-C. 4.) No where on the radio is the FCC ID approval number. It is not on the sticker behind the radio where it is required to go if it is approved. 5.) Removed a star because description says CHIRP compatible but it was reported as not supported 1 year ago and 0% complete. I hate programming radios by the keypad unless it is one or two memories, not 999.
