A lifesaver! A definite must have!
We had purchased a magnetic alarm that clipped to my father's shirt while he sat or slept. He has PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) and his physical condition has made it so his mind feels he can just get up and go while his body coordination doesn't quite follow. A fall can be life-threatening for him so this pressure mat has been AMAZING.We actually purchased a magnetic clip-style alarm (like what they have in the hospital) and found that it can easily be detached, which we understand is kind of the point but to the extent that there were tons of false alarms and it got super annoying. The clip-style also bothered my father as he twists and turns in his sleep so he found it extremely uncomfortable. It got to the point where he would end up taking it off without us knowing and we would wake to find him standing or trying to walk around by himself - or even worse, we'd wake when he heard him fall. The magnetic clip-style alarm also had a ridiculously irritating bright, blinking light once it was "armed" which made it unusable during the night. We purchased this pressure mat (after researching pressure sleep pads and then disregarding given that it would go off as my father adjusted his position in bed) and it has been amazing. It's super thin and we place it near the side of my father's bed and put a larger rug on top of it so it's not a tripping hazard. The noise/alarm itself comes from the unit - which has a chime or alarm option - and it's actually so good and loud that we dampen the box by wrapping it in some cloth (so it's loud but not crazy loud as it's being used in a bedroom setting). The cord connecting the alarm box to the pressure mat is really, really long we leave it coiled up as we have a caregiver who is usually in the room with my father. I can see it coming in handy if you needed to have the alarm in a different room from where the patient is. It's also super easy to turn off and on in the dark. So when my father asks for help getting up in the middle of the night (which is what we want him to do), it's easy to find the switch in the dark and turn it off so the alarm doesn't go off.We researched a lot of different versions prior to purchasing it and we are very satisfied with this item. We have only had it for a few months and it's been a lifesaver many times over. We bought this for our loved one and have had significantly more peace of mind by using it.

Keeps My Loved-One Safe
Low cost alternative to the VERY expensive ones. It has helped greatly to keep my loved one safe. At night, I place the alarm pad next to the bed of my loved one who has dementia. I then place a piece of carpet over the pad so he cannot see the pad and the plastic alarm pad is not cold or slippery on his feet. The very generous wire is put under the bed and the alarm/controller then goes under my pillow. The pillow mutes the sound but is still enough to wake me when my loved one gets up. I prefer the chime setting. Occasionally when I am up but loved one is asleep, I will bring the alarm/controller out of the bedroom so I can be alerted if he awakes. I am so happy with this product, that I purchased a second one just in case. The peace of mind I now have is wonderful.

Alarm mat
This product is not worth the money. I put it by the side of the bed and my husband keeps sliding and falls, and he just had hip surgery. Had to pick it up. Would like to return.

Great product, outstanding customer service. 18-month review
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT AND COMPANY!In this day and age, it is refreshing to find a company that is so responsive and stands behind their products with great customer service.I bought one of these about a year and a half ago. It's outside under another mat, and is indispensable because sometimes the dogs get let out and forgotten and they don't know to paw at the door or bark. This fixes that problem. So I bought another one for the other door that the dogs use.Recently, the first one stopped working after 18 months and it was beat up (plastic torn, exposed insides, etc.) I'm surprised it worked as long as it did. So I figured, well, I'll just get another one and replace it, which I did. Then I thought, well, I should give the manufacturer a chance to fix it if they want.I emailed the company through their website, and Liohn responded w/in 24 hours (good). I asked what the expected lifetime is and explained the situation. They said, "we certainly expect it to last longer than a year and half, especially if it's under another mat." They are sending me a new (even larger!) mat to replace it. I was going to return the replacement i bought ot Amazon, but now I'm thinking I'll just keep it and put it at the third door that the dogs (and human guests) sometimes use. So, the failure of the first one ironically led me to buy another one, so the company made out OK too. This is what good customer service should look like. Most companies, including big companies like Andersen Windows, completely fail at this.

Let's you know it's been stepped on
We got this because our older dog was having bladder issues and couldn't hold on too long once he had to go, so needed to get him outside quickly. We managed well during the day because we could see him showing he needed to go. At night however, he wasn't good at getting attention to go out and started having accidents by the back door.I put this mat by his dog bed in our room in a spot he would need to cross to get out of the room. The plan was that it would get our attention and wake us at night. It has two settings, a chirping and a louder alarm - the chirping was enough, and I am usually a sound sleeper. The mat is plastic so we put it under a lightweight rug to protect it from his claws.Anyway, this worked well for us. We got plenty of warning and were able to get him outside whenever he needed to go. I'd strongly recommend this for a purpose like this.

Don't buy
Worked well the first month to let us know when the dogs wanted to come in the back door. The volume control doesn't work, sometimes when it's stepped on it continuous goes off and never stops Area is covered and waterproofed.

Great for kitties!
This is a game changer for our indoor/outdoor kitties! They prefer to use one door and we don’t have to keep them waiting if we are in another part of the house! It has a very long wire so we can place the chime where we can always hear it.
