Big, bulky, Hefty weight, heavenly night's sleep, warm and plush
Rolls up relatively easy and rolls out and inflates relatively easy. As it says it's name is Basecamp and that is exactly it's best use. This is not a take on backpacking mat. But for car camping Etc it is at the peak of inflatable mats for comfort and durability.

Exceptional Thermarest Quality
I had one of the very first self-inflating Thermarest pads back in the 70’s, and this new one is no exception to their outstanding quality and design. My original never leaked air or deflated unexpectedly or had structural issues the whole time I backpacked with it. I’m expecting the same great quality with this new purchase, but for car camping (we are much older now!). I was willing to spend the extra $$ on Thermarest brand because I know I can count on their quality. I love the simple improvements to the valve, the great color, and the feel of the outside fabric is just as nice as I remembered. We are looking forward to more great adventures ahead in comfort with these air mattresses (we ordered two the exact same).

Used this on one camping trip so far
Very comfy. Seems sturdy. Cannot speak to longevity as I just got it. I used it in my car. I would not recommend it if you have animals because I am unsure of how it will hold up. It is easy to inflate and keeps you nice and toasty on a cold night.

Skip the air mattresses and go straight to this!
As a "car camping" tent glamper, I have gone through three air mattresses that eventually sprung leaks. I should have gone straight to the Therm-a-rest n the first place. Also, since even the "regular" size is so big it is only for car camping, I suggest you get the X-Large size. Its 30" width is comfortable for wiggly sleepers. I bring along a twin size mattress cover and sheet sheet, make up the mattress as a "bed," and put the mattress on top of my Ozark Trail zipper cot. However, I have used the mattress without the cot, and that is comfortable also. The only drawback is that the mattress should be stored in an inflated state.

Longtime Thermarest owner needing a larger one for “glamping”. See pros & cons below.
Pic from left to right: Standard Thermarest - Thermarest XL Basecamp - Invoker 3” modelLongtime Thermarest owner for hard camping. Now that I “glamp” more than camp, I wanted “toppers” for the RV bed cushions in my Class B Xplorer motor home. The idea was to have an adjustable firmness topper that would store easily. I intend to store them deflated under the existing cushions. I have a full 77” length in the rear of my wide body Class B. Set up as twin beds in rear, right and left, 30” W each bed with 24” aisle between. Just my setup. I also like the idea of having my old standard Thermarest in case someone wants to sleep on the floor. The Thermarest XL fit the space perfectly. My old “standard” a bit too small. This comparison is between the Thermarest XL Basecamp and the Invoker 3” model. Both are longer and a bit wider than my “standard” Thermarest I have owned for years. I bought both the Thermarest XL & a 3” Invoker for this comparison & review.Pros & Cons: The INVOKER is 1” thicker and has a softer surface. It is more comfortable and less likely my hip bone will touch bottom side laying, if I let air out to make softer. Not really an issue in my use since they will be over other very firm cushions. The 3” Invoker is a little less than 28” wide, 2” shorter than the Thermarest XL, but love the comfort of the extra inch thick over the Thermarest. But the Thermorest XL is wider so fits better in my space. The Invoker softer surface will likely hold a fitted camp sheet a little better than the slipperier Thermarest. Naturally the thicker Invoker does not roll up as small in diameter as the thinner Thermarest. But the Thermarest XL is longer. My Thermo standard size is perfect for camping and on a pack since it’s smaller. Both inflate on their own easily in 5-10 minutes. Both have good 2 way air valves. Both you can blow inflate if you wish to make them firmer. IMHO Thermarest valve is better positioned off the surface so not to be in the way of rolling up. The Invoker valve is perfectly ok positioned on the surface but deep in the corner. However the Thermarest valve is better engineered, positioned & seems more durable. The the only reason I’m not going 5 stars is it’s just not quite thick enough w/o blowing it up a little, and that makes it too firm for me. (I’m such a whiner). I wish there was 4 1/2 star pick.Overall you won’t be disappointed with the Thermarest XL. I intended to pick the best and return the other, but I’m keeping both!

Best portable mattress you can carry with you anywhere
What I love about this mattress is that you don't need to inflate it manually. Just open the valve and with a bit of patience, it's perfectly inflated. It also "copies" your body temperature and reflects it back to you. It actually feels like a heated pad on a cold night. It also has just the right amount of give that supports your body profile. Quality is exceptional and I know it will last for years. A quality product made in Seattle WA U.S.A.!

Long enough for my 6ft 4 inch hubby. He says he angel his body heat coming back to him as he lays on it. Perfect with a camping quilt. Lo get and wide than a regular pad so you can roll over or curl up in the night.
