It cannot hold heavy items. I wouldn't recommend spinning it fast or letting a kid play with it, because it will probably fall apart. I bought two. My husband opened the first before I got home from work and it broke in several places, but he was able to glue it back together. It's in a pantry so no one has to see it; it looks fine anyway. However, he handles things roughly. I put the second one together, not using as much force as he did, and it is fine. One holds smaller baking supplies and doesn't get turned that much. The other holds spices; nothing too heavy. The one thing that is truly a problem is that the base is really not large enough to support the width of the tray that sits on it; if I could change one thing, that would definitely be it. Again, I would not recommend putting heavy or unbalanced items on this lazy susan and do not spin it too fast, and you should be ok.
