Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: Old and New Testaments

Golly, worth the price -- Get this Study Bible
My study has been interrupted by some health issues, but I find that the comments and essays in the first 100 pages are useful and reliable, and I look forward to the rest. I have the Jewish Study Bible and the Commentary on the Old Testament by Bergsma and Pitre to consult when I have the time to do so.In a separate, short book by Bergsma on the Jewish Roots of the Priesthood, there is a note that the Hebrew language does not have tenses, and translations usually follow the context. As a result (I suppose), Isaiah 51:3 is written in the past tense in the Jewish Study Bible, but in the future tense in the majority of Christian bibles.

AN INCREDIBLE RESOURCE
AWESOME!! I've waited for this and am so happy to have it in my Catholic library. I have had the New Testament edition for several years and the notes are incredible for helping me understand the Scripture verses. These authors are very intelligent men and have put together an incredible resource. I highly recommend it. I have learned so much. I use it every day for my quiet time. I am a convert and the Ignatius Study Bible has helped me more than I can say to understand God's Word. It is very reasonably price for the incredible volume of material you receive. The print is nice and clear and easy to read. Wish I'd had this when I first became Catholic!! I don't think anyone would be disappointed in having this Bible.

Please protect the Bible in shipping; maybe also offer 2 volumes, NT & OT.
Like many other people I've been waiting years for this Bible. That's why I want to offer a couple of suggestions. This book weighs about 5.5 lbs. It is massive. If it is to arrive without damage it needs some protection. The very thin heavy weight paper doesn't get the job done. At minimum it should be shrink wrapped, which it is not. The Amazon order arrived damaged and I returned it for a refund. I bought two of these Bibles direct from Ignatius Press. They bubble wrapped them in a tight box and that resulted in one Bible with zero damage and the other with only minor damage. So I kept both of them. What do these Bibles need so they don't arrive damaged to the eager customer? 1) Heavy cardboard sleeves that cover all but the binding and then shrink wrap the whole thing, AND then 2) bubble wrap it and ship it in a box that fits the items inside and or fill the empty space with cushioning materials. Ordinarily it is hard to damage books but when they are this massive and the cover is flexible leather... it needs some HELP!Another suggestion to Ignatius Press. Perhaps you could consider publishing this in two volumes? The Navarre Bible New Testament is in one big volume. Same could be done here. Unlike the Navarre the Ignatius Press Old Testament could nicely fit in just one volume. Maybe options for hardback and leather, with the leather protected as outline above. Actually, please protect the hardback edition too. Of course you could keep the option of one big (5.5 lbs) volume or the two volume set.We all waited so long for this. I just don't understand why obvious measures weren't taken to protect this beauty in shipping. But finally, very glad you worked so hard on what is inside the Bible! :) It will help many of us.

Worth every cent
Indeed the best Study Bible to exist. It came in a pristine condition and was wrapped and padded in the box. No damage at all. The pages were complete and there were no missing or duplicates pages. I might return to write a longer review, but it ticks all the right boxes. The introductory essays are rich with scholarship and the Catholic Traditions and cross references the Catechism of the Catholic Church as well as the Church Fathers. On top of that it's visually pleasing and the binding is very strong.

Beautiful and complete. A Renewed Journey of Faith and Understanding
After returning to my faith a couple of years ago, I was very lukewarm in my approach. However, recently something changed, and I felt the desire to deepen my understanding and grow in virtue. I realized I needed not just to read the Bible, but to truly understand it. That's why I purchased this one — because I trust its authors. Thank you very much. I am currently very satisfied with the purchase and look forward to increasing my faith and understanding.

Great home study Bible
It is a hefty 2,300+ pages so not ideal to carry around for your usual Bible study, but that wasn't what I bought it for. I wanted a Catholic approved home study Bible with notes and commentary that will assist me in my exploration of Catholicism. It is a sturdy Bible (mine is hardcover) with a bit thicker paper than the usual near translucent stuff that tears easily. I'm in a study group going over Habbakuk this week and this Ignatious Study Bible was so helpful. Very pleased with this Bible.

Delivery dates change
This is a wonderful Catholic bible, but I am still waiting for delivery. Dates of delivery keep changing. Better to purchase it from the publisher.
