Not for the beginner, but do get anyways.WELL WORTH IT
This radio is amazing.Really shines on AM,esp at night.Too many features to mention.SSB works great, but sometimes gets a little vibration but not a problem in listening.Air band works FANTASTIC. I pick up the tower from an airport 45 miles away.Has squelch.Does have a learning curve as some buttons have multi function. Very sensitive on all bands.I live in the midwest and pick up stations from China during the day.You can listen to military air bases and hams on ssb.Come in very good with just a 60 ft speaker wire stuck outside.Battery life last forever.Has nice weight to it coz it's solidly built. For the price WELL WORTH IT.Buttons are solid as well as tuning wheel

FM DX reception is outstanding. Bandwidth options a big bonus for AM + SW
Fair price for the advanced features. PROs: 1. Excellent FM DX reception when used with the provided plug-in cable antenna, easily pulls in a 60-70-mile FM station inside a house on a small hill. 2. AM and SW have a few bandwidth options, which increases the sound quality if the signal is strong. That feature is usually found on much more expensive radios. 3. RDS allows you to read the title & artist of the current song, if the station updates track info. RDS also provides the station ID. 4. The DISPLAY option toggles, and it gives you signal strength and a quality value, which helps you find the best antenna position. This is unique, and I use this information frequently for finding the best reception location in the house. The temperature can also be displayed. LW longwave is useless in the Midwest. SW rarely pulls in stations, but when they do, the bandwidth feature can increase the sound quality. SW programming is more diverse in the Americas and in Europe. Major broadcasters (BBC, DW, RFI, Radio Exterior de España, RAI) abandoned the US years ago, assuming that every American has fast Internet for streaming. The "clock" appears to forget its time. But that's not important to me. Everything else has been mentioned in other reviews already.

Very good for a budget radio
Nice radio. The controls are easy to learn. Performance is good, with decent sensitivity and freedom from overloads and spurs; when compared with other budget-priced radios. It powers on quickly and has minimal latency (the time taken by the DSP to render the audio). The sound projects well; it is fine for voice and for music at low volumes. Consider using good headphones or an external amp/speaker for extended music listening. Battery life is excellent. If you’re torn between this and one of the “open source” all-band radios, I strongly suggest the former. It’s the difference between cobbling something together until it “works” and spending the time and expertise to make it “right”.

Good Radio, easy to nagivgate, minor sound issue
The Radio has been really nice for listening to Air Band from my backyard while I BBQ. AM and FM work fine. I wish it has the same memory scan/cycle function the D-608WB has. The D-808's implementation of it isn't as useful. You have to push the button every time you want it to go to the next channel in memory. If you long press it will just re-scan all the channels in memory. For the most part though the controls are easy to use and not too much long press/short-on/off pressing to do for all the functions. Battery life has been good and the alarm clock function is more reliable than my smartphone. The fact that the radio only displays in international time (24 hour) is actually a plus. The wire external antenna it comes with works good. With it I can start picking up the airport tower even though the 8 miles of suburbs and shopping malls in between me and the airport. There is some distortion/resonance about half way up the volume scale. It goes away as long as you are above or below that point on the dial. It's annoying but it's minor enough I can live with it.

Cute D808 doesn't hold up to the competition
This shortwave radio has a dedicated group of fans, but I'm not one of them. It's an OK radio, but I'm not really sure why. For the price, it is full-featured. The USB-C charging is what drew me in (and the SSB features) but the radio does have a few quirky controls and that's what led me to return my unit. A power button should be a POWER button, but the designers of this radio had to ruin such a simple control. As expected, the receiver isn't calibrated well. It's probably calibrated to some standard at the factory, but my unit was 2khz off frequency. This is pretty far off. This radio felt like a cloned Tecsun unit as the display and other controls are very similar. Receive performance was average. My Tecsun PL-880 can easily pick up WWV inside the house but the D808 cannot. Honestly, I'd rather pay for a receiver with better performance even if it's physically larger and more expensive. For the average world traveler, I guess this would be acceptable performance vs cost, but there are better options out there.

Decent radio
Great value for what you get. Works well on all bands but I haven't really been on LW so I can't comment on that. Great reception & good audio for a radio of its size.

This little radio has very good reception for both FM and SW. ( I haven't tested it for AM) It is very small, so if you want a small FM receiver with external antenna jack and great FM DX ability, this is the one.

Good radio but small, good sensitivity but SSB is not that great. Good reception on FM and AM. Sound quality is ok, use the external antenna jack for better reception on AM and SW.
