A lens with this focal range made by Nikon would cost you thousands and thousands of dollars. So you know straight away that this is going to be for very occasional use. Then it arrived. Holy moly! This probably the worst lens I've ever put on my Nikon D4. As someone else said, you're better off getting a good 200mm lens and cropping in, and still you'd have a better quality image. Personally, I think you're better off throwing it at the bird you're hoping to photograph, hoping it will knock the bird dead, stuffing the bird and then perching it on a branch 5 feet away with a 50mm lens. That's the only way you'll get a clearer image and an easier way to go about it too...... You may decide to get this lens out of curiosity.
