I’ve used a lot of cameras over the years, and the GoPro HERO13 Black genuinely impressed me in a way I didn’t expect. This thing is an absolute powerhouse packed into a tiny, rugged body. The video quality is on another level. Shooting in 5.3K with HDR gives you incredibly sharp, vibrant footage that honestly starts to feel like something you’d expect from much larger, professional setups. The detail and color are fantastic, and the built-in HyperSmooth stabilization is so good that it almost looks like you’re using a gimbal—or even higher-end cinema gear—without any extra equipment. What really blew me away is how close this gets to professional movie cameras in terms of results—without the weight, complexity, or insane price tag. You’re getting cinematic-looking footage out of something that fits in your hand and can go pretty much anywhere. No heavy rigs, no complicated setups—just hit record and go. The build quality is exactly what you’d expect from GoPro—tough, waterproof, and ready for anything. Whether it’s rain, snow, or underwater use, it handles it without hesitation. And despite being so durable, it’s still lightweight and super portable. Battery life is solid, and the updated battery gives you longer recording times, which is great for extended shoots. Overall, this camera delivers a near “pro-level” look in a compact, durable package. If you want high-end video without carrying around expensive, bulky gear, this is about as close as it gets. Easily one of the best action cameras out there—highly recommend.

Amazing quality with so many customizable options. I used this to record my mountain biking experience and the videos always turned out good. The battery life is solid but I wouldn’t keep it constantly running for long periods of time if you don’t have to. I would wait for a sale as there always seems to be one for GoPros

So far it seems awesome. I plan to use it for taking video for an event that runs an hour and a half. If I do timelapse photos at one photo every 10 seconds, it runs 3.5 hours. If I shoot 5k video, it runs 2 hours. So, it looks good even with just using the internal battery.

Incredible photo quality, with astonishing detail. I love it! The Bluetooth audio works perfectly with my AirPods for vlogging. It’s a bit pricey, but the versatility it offers is worth every penny.

Easy to use video camera, almost indestructible

Quality of the videos is outstanding, and it’s a very tough little camera. I use it for Dirtbiking through the forest and it gets whacked by branches, rocks and mud all day long with no issues. The screen doesn’t scratch, the mud doesn’t mess anything up, image is perfectly stable, but the audio is a little muffled when using the auto-wind reduction feature. Everything is 5/5 with exception of the audio (can buy aftermarket gadgets to improve that, although i don’t want to “have to” for the price), and battery life is subpar per all go pros. I bought a side door kit so I can plug in a power bank while riding and it gives me the ability to record for hours without ever having to end the video to swap batteries. Oh! And the GoPro Quik app is still middle of the road, you can only do so much when creating content through their software. Corny music, basic transitions, kid of glitchy. I just use my iPhones editing software (or IG, TikTok, iMovie, as it’s much better).

No complaints regarding image or audio quality. However: 1) The camera easily overheats and shuts down, even in mild temperature (24C/75F); 2) Having a lot of issues connecting to devices using Quik app. Sometimes the device finds the camera, sometimes not. Even when it does, it does not always connect. Tried my iPhone and iPad, same result with both. 3) Battery does not charge above 85%. Seems like faulty battery causing overheating. Update 29 Aug 2025: I downgraded my rating to one star and stopped using the app altogether—it’s simply too glitchy. I solved the battery charging issue with an external charger, but the overheating problem only got worse. The camera won’t record for more than 15 minutes, even on cool days, with frame rates lowered and screens turned off. Swapping in a new battery and memory card made no difference. In practice, this means I can only capture a few minutes of footage per clip before being forced into long cooldown breaks. An extremely flawed and frustrating product. Update Nov 2025: the camera no longer powers on, even when connected to an external power source via USB-C.

Today I used the camera for the first time, and it looks great. However, there is one issue with the battery timing: during a 15-minute film, it drained half of the power and became too hot.

I purchased the GoPro Hero 13 Black for high-speed racing and shallow salt-water use (never deeper than 5m). I take care of it like I do with all of my stuff but this is getting ridiculous. Despite meticulous care—thorough freshwater rinsing, drying, and protective mounts—I’ve now gone through THREE units in under a year. Every one failed the exact same way: the rear touchscreen goes completely black, shows lines, or stops responding while the camera may still record. Firmware updates, factory resets, and battery swaps do nothing. It’s clearly a hardware defect, not user error. Waterproof seals also leak salt residue far too easily. GoPro honored warranty replacements, but the repeated QC failures are unacceptable. Great idea, terrible reliability. Strongly avoid. 1/5 stars.
