Essential for High-BTU Gas Burner
Solid construction. Plenty of airflow for gas burner and heat rising up the sides of a wok.The distance between the bottom of your wok and the burner will depend on the curvature of your wok. So, it may or may not be the proper diameter/height depending on the curvature of your wok and how high your burner sits.On my Heartland range, I remove the grate and put this ring directly on the part of the cooktop that contains spills and boiled over liquids. As a result, the ring is very steady and the bottom of my wok sits just a fraction of an inch from the inner flame of my burner; the positioning is perfect!I've tried other rings and none of them worked. Basically, all the others are short, solid aluminum or steel chimneys with a few holes for air circulation. But, this chimney style of wok is for electric ranges, not gas. They don't provide for enough oxygen for my high-BTU burner. And, the heat is trapped in within the chimney so it doesn't lap up the sides of the wok. The bottom center of the wok gets warm/hot but the rest stays cold.If you want a wok ring for a gas range, you must get a wire one like this. And the only wire ring I can find is this brand, Joyce Chen.

Love this wok ring.
I totally enjoy using my Joyce Chen, Chrome Steel Wire Wok Ring. Easy to clean, lightweight, stays in place on my gas stove, great for round-bottom woks. This Joyce Chen, Chrome Steel Wire Wok Ring is so much better to use with round bottom woks than the ring with multiple holes cut out of flat steel. This wok ring allows the flames to envelop the entire bottom of the wok without anything blocking the flames. It allows for even cooking with high heat and flames. It's also a great price. I've used it with 14-inch woks and it works great. Will soon purchase two 16 inch woks to see if it accommodates that size as well.

A little lightweight
This is a nice, well made wok ring. It is much lighter weight than I had hoped and so isn't quite as steady on my stove - slides around a little. I think it would be better for a smaller wok but it's not really very stable with a 14" one. I will probably use it as a stand. I do like the design which allows for the flame to hit evenly on the entire bottom of the wok. It's make of polished stainless steel so is easy to clean when you slop something on it.

Didn't work for me
The wok ring is not quiet 2" H and the large ring is not quiet 10" D. My wok bottoms out so this ring is useless for me. May work for others with a different size wok.

Poor Quality / High Price
I bought this wire style Wok ring because we have a high end restaurant quality gas range with 18,000 BTU burners, and the more typical sheet metal Wok Rings get red hot and deform when cooking at high temps with our various Woks. This ring looked in the photo to be what we were looking for and Joyce Chen stuff tends to make good products, but on receiving it were disappointed to discover that the ring was poorly made and was also much shorter in height than other Wok rings. I assumed based on the selling price that this would be a high quality product, but instead the wire was not spot welded at the joint and didn't match up to the other end making the ring not sit flat so it wobbled when placed on the stove grate. In the end we returned this to Amazon for a refund and bought a much higher quality wire Wok ring from The Wok Shop in San Francisco for only $2.95 plus shipping! (Just type the name of the shop into Google for a link)So... Save you money on this junk and buy what we ended up buying instead!

Heavy duty to hold cast iron pan
I am not using this for a wok. I was keeping my cast iron frying pan on the back burner which is also the burner the oven uses to vent the heat out. The pan was keeping the heat from escaping and causing the entire stovetop to become hot. Turned upside down, this ring is the perfect size to fit over a large burner. Very happy with it.
