Der Autor schildert einige allgemeine und grundsätzliche Zusammenhänge, die sicherlich nicht falsch und versionsunabhängig sind. Das meiste davon ist jedoch Informatik- bzw. Datenbankgrundwissen. Das Buch erweckt den Eindruck aktuell zu sein (2014). Jedoch bezieht sich dessen Inhalt noch auf den SQL Server 2005 oder sogar ältere Versionen. Beispiele:"... via the new SQL Server 2005 views ...."" ... even in SQL Server 2005 ...".Das grösste Manko ist, dass die versprochenen Scripts sich nicht (mehr) unter der angegebenen URL befinden. Ein Teil der Scripts lässt sich über die Google Suche finden aber nicht als ein ZIP o.ä. herunterladen. Auf Nachfrage per E-Mail hat der Verlag (Rampant) nicht reagiert. Leider lassen sich viele der Stored Procedures unter SQL Server 2016 nicht fehlerfrei installieren oder führen zu Fehlern zur Laufzeit. Wenn ich mir den Funktionsumfang der Scripts ansehe, werden in der Zwischenzeit viele der Scripts durch Standard-Reporting-Features des SQL Servers abgedeckt (2012 und neuer). Ich hätte die Reviews auf amazon.com lesen sollen. Fazit: Für das 2. Jahrzehnt des 21. Jahrhunderts nicht geeignet.

Extremely disappointed in this book. Based on the listed publish date (May, 2014), I assumed that it was up to date with current SQL Server technology. This is simply not the case. The book reads as if the content and scripts were written prior to the release of SQL Server 2005, which involved a significant change in the platform. While some of the concepts still apply and the scripts may work in new versions, they are antiquated and do not reflect current best practices for collecting the information. Couple that with the many references to Oracle in a SQL Server title, and your money is best spent elsewhere.

Not what I was expecting. Still has good information though.

Just read 100 first pages, imho, this author took another approach for performance tunning than the other created. He laid a very strong fondation of how system works . Armed with this information he build whole new framework for gaining optimum performance. Very recomended for some one new .
