I have been a loyal Canon customer for decades, upgrading my camera every so many years. A few years ago, I made the move from EF to the mirrorless RF system, gradually replacing my lenses in the new system. I have always been a happy Canon customer. Until today. I purchased the new R5 Mark II as an upgrade to replace my older R5, which I had purchased right when it first came out. But crazily, the R5 Mark II won't accept any of my existing batteries and appears to have a digital rights management to ensure that you only use the new E6P battery. This is insane - even when I moved from mirror reflex to mirroless, Canon allowed me to continue using my existing batteries. So not only is Canon forcing people to buy all new batteries, but the new batteries are not actually available. Every store has them backordered for months. How are serious photographers supposed to use the new camera if they have exactly one battery available, the one that came with it? I returned the camera to Canon for a refund. As it turns out, the images that come out of it are no better than those out of the original R5. So as a result of Canon's behavior, I will not be upgrading to the Mark II after all. And the next time I am looking for a new camera, it probably won't be a Canon. They just lost my loyalty and my business.
