I wanted a box that played files off my NAS. That’s all. This is exactly what I needed. Easy to connect and auto scans folder you point it to for movies and files to play. I started renaming a bunch to fit what it’s looking for and it started getting posters and movie info. Really easy to be a player for backups of physical media. I also work in movie post production and wanted an easy way at to play back projects I worked on. This is also great for that. I can make really high bitrate files and it plays them back with ease. Anything that modern like h264 or h265 content is awesome. I have it set to pass audio through hdmi and that has worked perfectly. It’s an easy way to test atmos projects how they will be streamed.

This is the perfect solution for my home movie collection which sits on a 50TB NAS. Unlike my Amazon Fire cube or Roku while using Plex, the Zidoo grants me full Dolby Vision and full DTS sound tracts. As a standalone unit, it categorizes the movies just as good as Plex. I've plugged it into my HA (Home Assistant) automation setup as well as getting it working perfectly with my Harmony Elite remote. This is a great unit and I’m glad I found it. Now, I still run Plex for the "normal" TV setups around my house that still have Rokus and I dont need the full features of the Zidoo. The Zidoo is for use in my Home theater with a 7.1.4 atmos setup.

Perfect. The reviews people leave for these devices about streaming Netflix, yeah that's not what this is. If you have a serious networked media collection on your home server this is what you need. I have a 9.4.4 system and three other zidoos throughout the house and these handle anything you throw at them. All my 4k rips are full bit rate, dolby atmos competely uncompressed files. No problems whatsoever. Highly recommend if that's what you're looking for.

It is a good device. Somewhere between a 3-4 star really. It has a couple of major issues that are not clearly advertised: 1. It doesn’t always load or read NFOs for shows. From the forums, it seems an issue only with new TV shows loaded as a new library in HT5. Apparently, it is not an issue if you imported them from HT4 or use the older model. 2. It is generally very good in stability though it requires a reboot often. In 3 days and it needed a couple of reboots to reconnect to the AVR properly using CEC. Hopefully, it is a matter of it struggling during setup and getting it fully updated to the latest firmware, but it questions its long-term stability. I’d say it is a cool device to try new things, but unless an update improves things, it may not be a keeper if you prefer dealing with NFOs and TV shows. If you like movies and build your collection with it, it is just plain great at that.

Got this because I was having a glitch with my Apple TV playing my home media. I'm aware this device is supposed to supperior playback of high def videos but after some time spent configuring Plex on the device I wasn't satisfied with the setup in regard to having my home media available to me to use. The poster art and meta data were not in sync too many times for my liking. Apple TV, on the other hand, is just so easy and everything works perfectly. In the end, I got a second Apple TV to circumvent the isse I was having and I put the Zidoo device in storage.

I used to use WD media player back when all we had was 1080p and lower. Once they discontinued those I started using plex, streaming, or running a 15ft HDMI to my pc. Since moving recently I was struggling to find a method to run my 80gb mkvs seamlessly. Reddit led me to this device. I plugged in my hdd and tried blade runner 2049. Instantly blown away. Plug in and play Dolby vision and Atmos worked flawlessly. Couldn’t be happier granted I’m only 2 days in. Will update if necessary.

Before the Zidoo, I have an Apple TV for my dedicated home theater. I worked really well at them time until I got into ripping physical media using MakeMKV. I then discovered that the Apple TV doesn’t support TrueHD Dolby Atmos pass through so I was not getting the highest quality audio that my discs had. I could have gotten a Blu-ray player or a kaleidoscape but with my AV rack being 2 rooms away changing discs would be too inconvenient and the kaleidoscape is way outside of my budget. In comes the Zidoo player! It is the perfect solution for me. Convenient and affordable! I just rip my 4K UHD discs to my NAS, connect the NAS to the Zidoo player and thats it! Pure Dolby Vision, ATMOS, HDR 10+ and you entire library at your finger tips. My only complaint is remote app. Since my AV rack is too far for the included IR remote to work and the app could be improved. But nothing a software update can’t fix. I did buy the v12 Bluetooth remote and everything has been great!

Es un excelente equipo para poder ver tus peliculas 4k UHD que ripeaste como remux. Yo buscaba un equipo que tuviera el passtrough de dolby atmos y dts:x sin perdida y este equipo lo tiene. No presenta lags al estar viendo las peliculas, todo va fluido.

Been using this for almost 3 weeks now, and I would say that I’m satisfied with it’s performance. The Tidal app has a bug but other than that this player is a beast!

Great media player, just what I was looking for. Plays all type of video and audio files as well as allows to view local photos in best quality on tv from the attached disk. Only ywo drawbacks - no voice input in youtube and does not show full subtitle/audio details if there are multiple options for same language.

Bisher hatte ich mehrere Orbsmart Geräte, 86 und 86 Pro. War sehr zufrieden zufrieden, hatten nur ein kleines Problem keines konnte 3D abspielen. An Dolby Atmos war schon garnicht zu denken. Ich hatte mir dann den Orbsmart R82 4k geholt leider gab es riesen Probleme mit Kodi die Qualität war sehr schlecht. dann erfuhr ich das der Orbsmart R82 4k garnicht wirklich der Hersteller des Gerätes war. Vor ein paar Wochen habe ich mir zum erstenmal den Zidoo Z9X 8K geholt. Leider musste ich diesen trotz erst klassischen Bild und Ton wieder zurückschicken als ich meine Platten angeschlossen habe ging es 1h gut dann spielten die Usb 3 Anschlüsse des Geräts verückt. Sie schalteten die Festplatten an u. aus. Ich schickte ihn wieder zurück und habe es mit einem neuen Zidoo Z9X 8K versucht und siehe da keine Probleme. Bild und Ton sehr gut, Kodi geht endlich auch wieder wie es soll. Mit der Zidoo Z9X 8K Oberfläche (Home Theater) werde ich noch nicht so richtig warm aber das kommt bestimmt noch.
