Q: I orderd two. is the green malfuntion light supposed to be on? the one with the light on is working properly and has one other outlet conneted to it.

To clear other confusion, the rest of my house has tamper-resistant GFCI outlets with an orange fault light. The orange light only turns on when the protection has tripped and needs to be reset. Instead, this outlet's green light is always on, no difference whether the protection has tripped or is working normally.

Q: I have an older house that doesn't have a ground wire for the outlets. if i replace my outlets with these will this stop a surge to protect my tv?

It still provides protection without Ground wire. GFCI detect the leagage by the balance between the hot and neutral currents ,when the people get the eletric shock or our home appliance get the leagage ,it will caused the imbalance between the hot and neutral currents. For this situation, the GFCI will trip off automatically. So, without the ground wire will not infulence the usage of the GFCI. However, for 100% safety, the ground is neccessory .

Q: Does the plate come off?

The Surround Plate installs separately using two screws as normal power outlets.
