This is for all readers, not just for those who appreciate the military
The first half of the book is an account of how the author’s values were formed – in large part by the U.S. Army. This first half also details how these values were the enabling factors accounting for his success later in life as he became a competent and people-oriented entrepreneur. The detailed history and recollections in this part of the book are vividly described: his early veneration of his grandfather’s war record, his enrollment in the U.S. Army and treatment as a recruit, his war experiences as an active soldier, and his promotion to officer status. All of this is woven around his self-imposed need to secure a formal education. The carryover of values from his military career to his business career is described in terms of values. The values of discipline, foresight, planning, and concern for those under his charge are explored as to how they affected his business success as the owner of Corvette Warehouse, the largest pre-owned Corvette dealer in the south of the country. He is very strong while elaborating on aspects of leadership, empathy, and how to better understand people. But to think of the book as simply an exploration of personal values and how they were formed in the author as an individual is to miss the book’s central message. The second half of the book is different. This half’s message is about creating success in the reader’s own life and, by implication, in any person’s life. By searching for long-term career success through serving others and applying discipline, Ernest argues that anyone can bring success to his/her life and create inner happiness. He challenges the reader, positing that this is the best method of achieving a rewarding life. The necessity of setting/achieving goals and using positive values to set and achieve them is illustrated by using his own life as a living example. He includes mostly positive times in his life but, in the end of the book, introduces some dark periods and practices in his life. He describes how bringing the force of values to bear enabled him to overcome his adversities. The complete message is that the reader, or anyone else, should do the same.In this way the book is both biographical and inspirational. Ernest’s opportunities as he grew-up allowed him to achieve his greater aims. By chronicling and reflecting on these events, the author hopes to have many others apply these levers to achieve life success. The book is about developing the spirit, courage and purpose one brings to life. Ernest feels the term ‘patriotic’ best describes the needed spirit. Perhaps he does this because the book is dedicated both to youths considering military service and to those who have served in the military. In contrast, this reviewer would argue that the needed and uplifting spirit he encourages is better described as the spirit of a maturing and caring person moving into full adulthood. The book is not really about patriotism, it is about purpose and life. As such, it has real appeal for general readers, not just seventeen-year-olds embarking on or considering a military career.

Great short story book from a True Patriot!
I liked this short story novel because it was an honest and truthful story regarding someone who has really made something of himself and going through many battles to get there. He does use too many big words that I didn't know the exact definition of but figured out after looking up. I would refer this book to anyone who has interest in battles and making it through the tough times. I'm sure many veterans will like it.

They aren't sugar coated, which is often a problem with many books on starting a business. This book is based on real life experiences vs theory. A great read.
