You get what you pay for and that ain't much
When you first hold this item, you think it is sturdy. However, this notion gets dispelled as soon as you place a moderately heavy camera and lens combination on it.The biggest problem is that once loaded, the rails develop a play, which means that the minute object you're focusing on shifts in your field of view when you lock the knob and release it. It might be possible to get rid of some of the play by mounting the camera facing backward instead of forward, but I've not tried it.Secondly, the movement of the rails is also not very accurate, so critical focusing (or focus stacking if you're attempting it) can be difficult.Thirdly, mounting the camera and locking it securely in place is also tough because of the location of the screw and its quality. So the camera might tilt sideways, especially if a heavy lens is used, if the head is tilted. All in all, if you can get something better by paying 25-30% extra, please go for it instead of blowing your money on this one.

Value product for beginner... like me!
Good value for beginner or occasional macro. Anyone else probably needs to spend more on a better-engineered product.Depending on your tripod: buy a QR clamp for the top and a QR plate for the bottom. Or... fiddle with screws if you don't mind that.

okay as entry level
not so great but okay to use it once in a while as a hobbyist. this is not for serious photography as the precision and movement with accuracy is not that great and is not easy to manage

Thread for fixing with tripod screw is not metallic
The threading at base for fixing with tripod is of body material, not metallic, so I doubt the performance in long run when used with metallic screw of the tripod

Value for money, sturdy and accurate.
I was trying to use it for focus stacking. Had to teach myself about the screws and stuff in the beginning, but it works like a charm once you get used to it.

Excellent macro rail for the price
Excellent rail for the price. Don't expect wonder pictures just because you started using it, you have to put it to good use. No ply introduced by this unit.

Must have for (stacking) macrophotography
Sits snugly on a tripod. Shifts smoothly on both axes. And the most important are the scales (meters) which come most handy for complete coverage of an object. Nice accessory.

Very useful close focus tool for macro work!
Very useful close focus tool for macro work! This was a surprise find on Amazon for me but as I was beefing up my Macro work it was just what I needed. Its well built construction allows full minute 4 way movement to closely focus on the subject when using a tripod. It felt very secure on the tripod and the camera/lens was solid and safe, when you lock the adjusters there is no movement at all giving a secure stable platform to maximize sharpness in your macro images.

Does a fine job
Having recently purchased a 105mm macro lens and realised how difficult it is to get super sharp focus hand holding and rocking backwards and forwards to achieve focus whilst doing macro/close up shots l decided to purchase this item so l could really get sharp shots with the fine tuning of your focus and also it being tripod mounted you can really use the small apertures you need to get the depth of field you sometimes need for macro photography it is also useful for focus stacking ( somethings l have not tried yet) and also possibly panoramic photography regards setting the nodal point of your camera lens combination to get correct stitches. It is solidly built with a metal / Aliumium construction and the rails move smoothly along their guides so all in all a nice piece of kit and well made for the price

Great piece of kit tha tdoesn't cost a lot.
I was a little hesitant about buying this as I had not previous experience to draw from in using such a device. Before buying it I would use my tripod to manually move the camera back and forward etc which, whilst not ideal, I got used to.Using this rail has just made life so much easier...!I was impressed with the build quality and the small micro adjustments, which can be tensioned or locked, which is possible when it has been attached to my tripod.I decided to not buy a macro lens at this stage, I'm more curious about the subject and so didn't want to spend too much money. So instead I bought a set of extension tubes and also a Raynox 250. This slider rail perfectly compliments using those when my Canon 80D camera is fitted. The precision in moving the camera is good and there seems little movement once it is securely fitted. Obviously with the very shallow DOF and critical focussing needs no movement is a good thing..!Overall for the money that this has cost I am more than happy with what I have been able to achieve with very precise control over the distance and focus whilst using my camera as described above. The movement control is smooth and not jerky when using the turning knobs.Great piece of kit and not expensive either.

Well made, well priced.
The mount is verbal engineered and well-finished and is rally good value for money. However, it would have been better with a quick release mount. I had to create a washer to allow my camera (a Fuji XT-20, with an added grip) to sit firmly on the device.

Well made but didn't fit - had to return
Unfortunately the thumb screw on the top plate was too large and too short to fit the standard 1/4" tripod bush on no less than 4 bodies - Nikon, Lumix, Olympus and Canon. The unit is well made otherwise and if your camera body fits it represents great value
