Upon opening there were rectangular creases from it being folded. It was very soft while petting it in one direction but felt slightly grainy petting it the other direction. It also has a slight smell to it but wasn’t revolting in the least. After I hand washed it in a bowl of cold water with a dab of laundry detergent, I hung it outside to dry. Putting it on the pillow rendered the case creaseless. (Read that five times fast).... the smell was gone and within a few nights the “grainy in one direction and smooth the other” was gone and completely smooth. It was so soft that my toddler son started to pet like a dog and rub up on it like a cat.
