Review: Anyone who's ever owned / maintained a European car (BMW, Mercedes, VW, Volvo, etc) will attest to the quality of a Mahle cartridge oil filter. This Austrian made filter is flat-out a better quality filter than the Toyota O.E. filter (made in Thailand by Denso). The end-caps are made of an impermeable fiber/resin material that both provides structurual rigidity, and completely encapsulates the ends of the pleats to seal them off. I personally trust this more than the "bead of glue in the seam" the Toyota O.E. filters use. The filter also uses injected rubber "gaskets" at both the top and bottom to help seal the filter when it's seated in the filter housing. There's even instructions in the box reminding you of the torque values for the filter housing.

Anyone who's ever owned / maintained a European car (BMW, Mercedes, VW, Volvo, etc) will attest to the quality of a Mahle cartridge oil filter.
