Excellent professional cordless impact drill driver (With some cost-cutting)
This is the best available compact impact drill driver for the price in India. One might think that there are other better options like DeWalt or Stanley but there are certain features that make this the best overall professional tool compared to competition.I used to use GSB 500 RE. It is a powerful tool but there were certain use cases that i couldn't fulfill in my usage. Especially when assembling ikea furniture. There was great danger of stripping the screw heads or actually damaging the particle board furniture because the corded GSB 500 RE is too powerful. There's no torque control feature in it and controlling speed with just the trigger was very difficult. This led me to research for a better impact drill driver. I had considered the GSB 120 li and the lower powered options but it didn't make much sense as an upgrade from GSB 500 RE in terms of power. My requirements were;1. Should be 18V at least for a cordless drill.2. Should have torque control and speed control.3. Should have impact feature. The Bosch GSR 185 didn't have the impact feature.I had very strongly considered GSB 183 li but it didn't come with 2 batteries and also it was brushed motor.Pros:1. Has 2 speeds. Low speed tops out at 500rpm and is very controllable. It also has 20 Nm torque limit. This is very controllable for screw driving applications. Specifically assembling particle board furniture.2. Has torque control. It has 20 levels of torque settings between 1 and 20. Although each setting doesn't exactly correspond to a Nm of torque increment. But having that fine control over the amount of torque is a God send! I have no fear of stripping out my screws and over tightening stuff or breaking the particle board due to excessive torque.2. Comes with 2 decent batteries. They are the regular GBA 18V 2Ah batteries. Bosch also makes the excellent ProCore batteries which use the newer 21700 lithium ion cells and provide 4Ah in the same space as the regular GBA battery of 2Ah. But they're expensive. They bundled batteries work for a very long time. I didn't have to charge them yet. No other reputed tool makers offer 2 batteries with their cordless drill driver.3. Has an excellent tool less metal chuck made by Rohm! One of the best. I didn't realise how convenient toolless chuck can be. Saves a lot of time changing bits.4. Also comes bundled with an excellent charger.5. The box is compact and very nice.6. The toll is very light weight at just 1.3Kg with the battery.7. Brushless motor is one less thing to worry about in maintenance. And it makes the tool smaller in size! Also no risk of fires if working in a hazardous environment with fumes. A brushed drill generates sparks. Brushless motor doesn't generate any sparks so is much safer and also efficient).8. Comes bundled with all the essential bits required. Screw driving bits and drilling bits.9. The impact drilling is powerful enough (though not as powerful as the wired GSB 500 RE). But we can definitely get all kinds of jobs done with this. It is only marginally slower than the wired drill)I think the accessories (2 batteries, charger, and some bits) alone would cost Bosch about Rs 6000! Seriously value for money kit.Cons:1. The accessories are very expensive. The replacement GBA 18v battery of 2Ah size is about 1/3 the price of the full kit.2. The work light is very small (but practical). They could have built the work light led into a proper plastic reflector.3. One of the changes they've made recently is removing the battery charging indicator for the 2Ah batteries that come bundled with this set. If you buy the GBA 18v 2Ah batteries outside, they come with charge indicator with 3 leds. If you buy the ProCore batteries, they come with 5 led charge indicators. I do not know if Bosch has removed this feature from the GBA 18V batteries specifically that are being bundled with the kit or if they're completely phasing out the GBA range of batteries. But this was a very useful feature that they removed! Highly disappointed with t his removal. Removing 1 star for this cost cutting!Overall, I'm very satisfied with what Bosch is offering at this price.I'll update my experience review as I use it more.Update: 1/1/2025: The chuck is not made by Rohm.
